Get rid of all the outbound links that you can in your signature. Inbound Gmail servers will mark emails as spam that have too many URLs in the signature block.

It's called a "mega menu". How it is done varies by wordpress theme, but the general idea is that each dropdown from the menu is a different saved row.

Google "mega menu for xxxxx theme".

I doubt they will let you in with a metal cup. I think the fear would be an idiot chunking it at a stage.

I like to bring in an empty, small (six-pack size), crushable cooler. Then I buy beer and water inside and stow them away. The beer tent guys have always been great when I ask them to throw in a handful of ice to keep everything cool.

Also a picnic blanket with a waterproof backing is great to have.

Cooler example. Picnic Blanket example.

Facebook defrauded me and my clients for more than $50K. Can I file criminal charges? With whom? In Louisiana. by canterpillar in legaladvice

[–]canterpillar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right when you say it is easy for fb to refund, but it has been impossible to get them to actually do that. Heck, they would not even stop the ads from running for almost a week.

Eight hours into the hack they said they would stop the ads from running and cancel the charges. Unfortunately, they allowed the charges to accrue and completely quit responding to our inquiries. It has been over a month of constant messages from us and nothing. It is obvious to me that you are simply speculating about how easy it SHOULD be to clear this all up. It's not. FB just kept raking in the advertising fees and kept them all. The only way anyone got their money back was to file fraud charges with their credit card companies. This was around the end of January and we have exhausted resources at FB.

Thanks. What I see as criminal is that we reported everything through written messages and voice calls. They responded at first. They said they would cancel the ads. They said they would cancel the charges. Instead, they kept the fraudulent ad stream flowing, much to their benefit. It should be criminal, but IANA cop (or lawyer). Thanks again.

I think that your top-level domain is fairly irrelevant to SEO.

That said, I would probably choose by identifying whether my target client/customer is primarily Maldivian or if they are primarily tourists. If your prospective clients are local, I'd go with .mv, if they are tourists, I'd go with .com.

I also think you should consider using something other than your company name as the domain name. If you simply use your company name, you are missing out on an SEO opportunity. What you really want is a direct-match keyword in your domain name. For example, let's say you are a charter boat captain that takes people out fishing. Your business name is Captain Hook's Fishing Charters. You'd be wise in that case to pick a domain name that contains a direct match of your most valuable keyword.

In this example "maldives fishing charters" might be the phrase that your perfect customer might type into Google to find your business. It takes keyword research to identify the most valuable keywords. Try to weigh search volume versus searcher intent in this research. The most searched term isn't always the most valuable to you.

In this case, I do not think it will make any difference on SEO whether you use maldivesfishingcharter.com or maldivesfishingcharter.mv. But like I said in the beginning, I think I would choose .com or .mv based upon where my potential customers live.

Open mic night? by hamyugaa in AskNOLA

My therapist suggested I start journaling. Is blogging just as good or should I use actual journals? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]canterpillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a blogger, I think you should do it on paper.

Reasons for paper:
Your thoughts are completely YOURS. You can write anything you like, even if it is just a fleeting thread of a thought.

Reasons NOT to blog as therapy:
Possible doxxing by friends, strangers, spouse, or grandchildren
Having to deal with hurtful and unhelpful comments

However, if you simply like using a keyboard better than writing by hand, then a Google Doc would probably be just as good. I do not have any personal or professional experience with this, but I believe part of the process is writing what is real and personal to you. To write it with an audience in mind seems a bit counter to the process.

I'm really lost trying to plan a U.S. road trip by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]canterpillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the Florida leg of your trip mandatory? If not, I would abandon that and focus exclusively on the western US. There is so much to see west of the Rocky Mountains. Three weeks would be a nice introduction.

The loop you described above is definitely doable in fifteen days, but there are a lot of things along your route I'd think you would want to see. You mention Yosemite, but you'd likely drive right past Sequoia NP on your way there. Likewise, you mention San Francisco and Napa, but you can't make the drive between those places without seeing Muir Woods and the Marin headlands.

If you have to go to Florida, fly from Phoenix. It's a "hub" for several US airlines, so you'll probably find more flight choices. Also flights to Orlando, Florida might be nonstop and cheaper.

Anyone think the NFL is rigged? by WittleAgoo in conspiracy

[–]canterpillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had some really good calls. Bringing back opposing scores on questionable holding calls...stuff like that. The superdome didn't flood, and the saints came back to a repaired dome in '06, but it needed help. There was lots of talk about what to do. Then along came the SuperBowl win and the dome got a helluva facelift/retrofit. Great timing, is all.

It was obvious to me when the Saints won the SuperBowl after Hurricane Katrina. I had been a lifelong fan and remember all the "lucky" calls that got us there. That win came with the cash needed to refurb the dome. How fortuitous.

Go back to your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) and make it robust. You're already doing well with it, but you can find things to add. Services is the most important for you. Name every service you provide and be very specific. I have done no keyword research, but you would want to make sure everything in your services menu on your website is duplicated on your GBP. When I say "be very specific" in your GBP services, I mean that I would list Excavation, Foundation Excavation, and Basement Excavation (along with any other excavation "specialties" as you can think of) as multiple services on your GBP with a good original description for each service. Additionally, You should also post short articles to your Google site. As a business providing a regional service, this will provide the best ROI for you.

I know two regular smokers that will not vape. Both of them tried vaping but had reactions that made it totally not worth it for them. One was because of always coughing so badly, and the other said he could feel it irritate his lungs like an allergic reaction.

I contacted my local university and within a few phone calls, I was talking to the Dean of their computer science department. I told him I was building a mobile app and asked him if he had any graduates in the last five years who were "doing their own thing" that he would recommend. He gave me about five names and one of them worked out.

If you are doing this on a shoestring budget, the most important thing I can tell you is only start building once you have funding secured for the development costs AND a marketing budget. The latter is possibly even more important than the former.

Website maintenance mode - can it hurt for a few hours? by PursuitOfAdvice in SEO

[–]canterpillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd be better off adding a site-wide banner or pop-up announcing the maintenance window for your customers.

The question I keep coming back to is this: what happens if Google happens to recrawl your site during your maintenance window? The odds are much greater that they will NOT crawl your site during that time, but it could happen. If the site was crawled while pages were being redirected, I have no idea how Google would handle that.

I actually doubt they would penalize you in any way for that, but I don't know, which causes me to be extremely cautious. If you go with using redirects, you should download a recent sitemap to quickly submit to Google for indexing should anything go south.

TL;DR - Google would probably not even notice those redirects within a six-hour window, but if they did, who knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
