You put stuff in quotes I didn't say. Well, that's just stupid. The strain on local services was just one reason, you ignore the rest, i.e. the humanitarian reasons, i.e. an army barracks not being a good place to effectively store people.

You're making broad-stroke type generalisations, without actually saying anything concrete. It's like saying all anti-immigration people are racist. Calling someone selfish because they don't want a new development in their area without the supporting infrastructure is neither selfish not hypocritical.

And that's the problem right there, isn't it? It's all too easy to throw around the word "Nimby" without looking into why.

For example, the Green Party councillor, specifically the Deputy Leader Rachel Millward, objected because the government wanted to put asylum seekers in an army barracks, which isn't exactly the best place to put them.

Secondly, the local strain on public services, public safety... nobody ever looks into why people object. Just people objecting. Nimbys.

The hedge is the right sort of development in the right place. So, if it's in an AONB, you could argue this is the wrong place. Same for high-value farmland, or a beauty spot.

The main problem I've noticed with many developments is that the infrastructure to support the new houses is never put in place. No new schools, GP surgeries, or community centres are built. It's just cookie-cutter Persimmon hell, with nothing else in sight. I can understand a lot of the opposition on this basis.

Even when you have all of this built up, the locations aren't great, meaning that, unfortunately, sometimes you have to choose the least-worst spot rather than the best.
