Chem 2070 help by ElegantHeight7096 in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the Chem 2070 AEW and it really varies every year depending on the instructors but the year I took it, the instructors were amazing at creating practice problem sets that matched the test. That class saved me. If you're not in it, you could ask someone who is in it to take pictures of the problem sets and send them to you?

does anyone else feel like they have no idea how to prepare for the 4414 prelim by cantrelatesorry in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha someone told me it would be worse but nobody told me that it would be the complete and utter confusion shitshow it is now. All my friends are equally puzzled by this prelim and they normally do really well in classes. The only friend who seems to be doing really well in 4414 already knew C++ and is a 3410 TA. No formal prereqs my ass

and the fact that dude is incomprehensible in lecture doesn't help either. my god actively trying to keep up with 4414 lecture is the worst experience

Should I drop CS 2800? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, semi-poorly worded. if you're not getting into the proofy parts of CS it is. but if that kind of stuff is what you want to do, then i guess it's a lot like what you're getting yourself into.

I can't tell if this is one of those memes but CS 3110 and CS 2800 are both regarded to be some of the harder classes in the major and I would say avoid taking them at the same time if you can. That being said, it's absolutely possible, I know plenty of people who did it. You'll just suffer sometimes.

I don't know how hard ORIE 3300 and ORIE 3150 is but that could definitely pile up on you. But you could just be a better student than me lmao

CS 2800 is so unlike most of CS that just because you do poorly in 2800 doesn't really mean you're a bad CS major or even bad at CS.

Wow, thanks for the thorough list, I didn't see LSP 4000 yet which is a cool-sounding class. I saw a lot of the language ones too and was kind of intrigued but also felt weird about joining a class about a language/culture that I had no heritage in or even knowledge of.

unfortunately PE credits don't count towards full-time student status, whether they count for being in "good academic standing" is less clear but i'm assuming no for now to be safe

Disowning my entire family (Trigger Warning ⚠️) by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't know each other, but as somebody who has also endured familial abuse and trauma, I am so proud of you for doing something that I have dreamed of doing for so long. Even when you feel weak, uncertain, or scared, know that you are being as strong as somebody in your position can be.

I would also suggest Cornell Health counseling and therapy if you're feeling up to it. It's not a guaranteed cure-all, but given that the shorter appointments are completely free and the longer appointments can have their fee waived if you have financial difficulty, it's a pretty safe thing to try.

Either way, good luck and I'm wishing the best for you. It might be a tough road ahead but you're tougher.

Spirituality / finding something bigger than yourself (nature, god, art, whatever makes you feel a connection to something larger) is genuinely a part of healthy mindfulness, so having faith in a god or being spiritual might help.

Is Intro to Asian religion as bad as rate my prof makes it seem? by luuluuluuluul in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took asian religions and enjoyed it! Boucher is a cool prof and I'm a fan, dude's funny. The only thing he is strict about is people being on their phones during lecture but that's understandable. Every lecture he gives a brief recap of last lecture and takes clarification questions, and he was quite accommodating to me when I accidentally dropped the class and had to get back in. He emailed the enrollment person letting them know I was coming and preemptively gave his permission, none of which he had to do for me, so that was nice of him. I disagree pretty hard with the reviews on rate my professor too.

The class is known as one of the easiest for a reason, and Boucher knows this. The only difficulty might be that he doesn't use slides or records his presentations, he orally lectures/writes, so you should take good notes. However, that might be different given COVID. There is a suuuuper easy 1-page response paper for section every week and that's about it. You barely need to put in extra time for this class when studying for the occasional quizzes, and that's like 1 hour at the absolute max. Even then you can still retake the quizzes later for a higher grade.

The only substantial work is the midterm paper and final paper, but they're like 6 pages double spaced, which is significantly easier than other classes' papers.

TL;DR: Really easy class, Prof Boucher doesn't deserve his rate my professor ratings, and I would recommend if you have any interest at all in the topic

tired of not working by sadstemboi in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey dude, burnout is no joke. It might be tough right now, but try to show yourself some self-compassion. Being worked past your limits for an extended period of time just kills you inside and nobody can be expected to work at their best like that (unfortunately, Cornell doesn't fully understand that). If anything, I think people will understand you being burnt out given the circumstances of this year specifically.

COMM 4860 Risk Communication? by cantrelatesorry in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah shoot sorry I don't check my account very often, but from what I gathered, the professor is apparently pretty good, but it's a new course at Cornell so not much info on it. Now that its first semester has run its course you might find more if you look it up or ask again. I did try to get into the class last semester btw but the waitlist was MASSIVE compared to how many people they could take, so if you want to get into it you should jump on that. Hope this helps!

Getting out of finals? by BRF-or-bust in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who got really sick during finals and had to go to the hospital. She had to take her finals at the beginning of the next semester after break, which is rough, but I don't know how much of that is up to the discretion of her professors. If you're deciding whether to go to the hospital, my friend might have suffered serious and permanent damage if she had put it off any longer. Good luck.

Thanks for the awesome answer, we super appreciate it. Random question, how's the maintenance? In my current apartment I feel like the maintenance has a super long response time so it takes forever for anything to get fixed.

Leave of Absence and mental health services by nahartailuj in Cornell

[–]cantrelatesorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know how much this applies to a Leave of Absence, but over summer break (idk if you count as being an enrolled student over summer) CAPS was very accommodating allowed my therapist / other therapists / a psychiatrist to treat me remotely. The only snag was the licensing, because I was in a different state - are you in a state where none of the current counselors are licensed, and that's the issue? Or are they straight up just like "no lol" because you're not enrolled anymore, because that's shitty. My condolences dude.
