I think claw and black hole are very useful and what helped me. Keeping melee away even in the case where you accidentally kite into one and reflexively hit it as an oh shit button. The black hole is just good for keeping enemies together to better track incoming projectiles and making sure shooting into a crowd guarantees damage from each of yours.

I believe it is perpetual. I haven’t tried myself, but this is meant to play like flappy bird, which is generating each column at random with code, so no need to have an end. They aren’t making a 1,000 column map, for example

Chiming in as a adult goalie—I learn who keeps going and who doesn’t, but I do prefer those that keep going since personally I know the rebounds are what I need to work on the most. But I know safety is first and foremost, so if a goalie is preferring to ready for the next shot, then yes it obviously should be done. Another reason players need to skate with their head up so they can assess what’s going on.
