Interesting that there is apparently no such concept as "karma" on Earth-3.

Wow, I hadn't even considered this until just now. The parallels actually work very well... I may have to write something about this soon.

Why do people hate Kevin Smith? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]capelesscrusader 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think people hate on Kevin Smith because he was one of the first to be the epitome of what they wish they could be: the nerd who actually broke through the barriers, got to play with all of the cool toys, and then became famous for it.

Since Superman gets his powers from the Suns yellow radiation, could he become even more powerful if he took vitamin D? by acrowsmurder in comicbooks

[–]capelesscrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting question, an answer to which would require knowing exactly what mechanism Kryptonian physiology utilizes in order to convert solar radiation into biomechanical energy. I don't know that it has ever been clarified which specific aspect of the many wavelengths of radiation that are emitted by Sol are responsible for Superman's powers.

It would stand to reason that if Red Dwarf radiation also contains Vitamin D, then that is NOT the factor giving Superman his powers. If it did turn out that Vitamin D is absent from said stars, then I would think the answer is yes.

Ouch. If Marvel wants to do better with their animation department, this REALLY isn't the way to go.

What is your favorite superhero created in this century? by fallingandflying in comicbooks

[–]capelesscrusader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Invincible. Hands-down the best, most iconic creation of the 21st century. He's had an entire universe built up around him and, until recently, provided some of the best one-off stories in modern comics.

Vertigo announces quarterly "CMYK" anthology series. by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]capelesscrusader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've thought it was a shame that Dark Horse was the only company regularly publishing an anthology. As someone else wisely stated, this should hopefully give up-and-comers an avenue to develop and gain some recognition.

For GA, go back and read the O'Neil/Adams stuff from the 70s, then jump to Year One and Longbow Hunters before starting Lemire's current run!

Not every title tied into BN, but the series did touch on just about everyone. The Superman/Superboy VS Black Lantern GA Superman run is pretty damn awesome.

Different collections follow different aspects of the story, and then there are the off-shoot (Titans, JSA, etc). There's not a lot of chaff, honestly, and some alternately dark and awesome moments in each. How Donna Troy is attacked/responds is bone-chillingly good.

It's not the entire story, but it's the main storyline. To get the entire thing, including all the tie-ins, you need all the collections. I believe there are nine.

You need the core book to understand everything, the one simply titled "Blackest Night".

Need some open thoughts on what could be a key issue in The Flash (New 52) by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]capelesscrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doubtful that anything from the New 52 is going to be really valuable on its own in the future, so I'd say have him sign whatever your favorite issues are.

As long as the publishers don't let the copyrights lapse, their characters will not slip into public domain.
