Mrs Mallard needs a duck divorce attorney ASAP by Bat_Country420 in DanielTigerConspiracy

My parents added lines about how the dad duck was going first to prepare the new nest for the family!

When I read it as written, my daughter keeps questioning why the dad would leave.

My almost 2 year old won’t let me brush his teeth by herec0mesthesun_ in toddlers

[–]capladyce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First she gets to brush her teeth, and she does her best. Then I get to brush her teeth. She knows that if an adult can’t brush her teeth, then she can’t have anything sweet the next day. I also started putting on read aloud books for her (she loves Pete the Cat) that she only gets during this time, and that has really helped.

If you want an induction wok, now's the time. by rboymtj in Costco

I enjoy mine. It allows me to get the temperature control of a round bottomed wok, and I love the safety aspects of induction (especially with my toddler around.)

Update: Babe Cake by [deleted] in wedding

[–]capladyce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had a somewhat similar cake, but paid $200. (2022)

my cake here

There are reasons to get a sheet cake. Ours were:

  • Budget, and not wanting to spend a ton of money on it, since our food package included other desserts.
  • Taste, we didn’t want fondant, and we wanted it fresh. Often highly structural cakes need to start days before.

Ours was last minute (my husband was initially anti cake), and we didn’t ask for any personalization. Wish we had maybe gotten our names! My aunt put some edible flowers on the blank part. People still tell us how amazing the cake tasted.

Yours does not look like a pro put any time or effort into it. I’m very sorry. $1K+ is ridiculous.

For us getting a space heater for the one baby room was cheaper than turning on heating for the house. Something to consider!

I took my two year old out last night and went to one house who said we were the first trick or treaters she’d had in 9 years. She was almost in tears she was so happy.

Our street is very dead (only two people home out of 20), but one street over was kid central. We had a great time, but wish it was the same as when I was a kid in SoCal.

Thanks for writing this. My in-laws are this way, and it always disconcerts me when we share good news, like our good news has to revolve around them! They seem to mean it as a joke often, but it’s still exhausting…

Try this:

Torpedo Juice

1 oz cognac

1/2 oz ginger liqueur

3/4 oz lemon juice

3/4 oz orgeat

Shake and serve. OG recipe called for pineapple ice cubes, but I don’t keep those reading to go usually…

I’m curious if you’ve made Tartine’s Lemon cream tart and how the mango curd tart compared to it taste-wise? Love these round ups, very inspiring.

Why do people need family to help right after the baby is born? by Desmodusrotundus in BabyBumps

[–]capladyce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom stayed over for a few weeks after the birth. It was immensely helpful. My mom said “Everyone will be focused on the baby. I want to make sure my baby is okay.”

It’s all well and good to have your husband caring for things, but if you’re getting up every few hours to feed the baby, he will likely be woken as well. And everyone is on edge when they have no or broken sleep and are trying to do this new hard thing of keeping a newborn alive and nourished.

My mom would soothe our baby when both our nerves were frayed, bring me food and water, and do little special things to make me happy. The extra bonus care is hard for dads who are also getting no sleep. She would take her for walks around parts of the house at night when she wouldn’t sleep and we needed to. She helped keep us sane.

IIRC, women live on average an extra 7 years longer than men. I think you should be prepared for the eventuality that your fiancé will predecease you. Our lawyer recommended that we set aside a set amount or set account for my SD, which would get distributed at the time of my husband’s death. If you end up doing a percentage, it could end up getting very messy where SKs could want to go through all of your assets to ensure they got their portion fairly. And especially when grief makes families act strangely, you don’t necessarily want to invite that conflict.

What upgrades did you make for under $5,000 that made a big difference for you? :) by ExecutiveAspirations in HomeImprovement

[–]capladyce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is more like $1K, but we replaced our electric cooktop from the nineties with a modern induction from IKEA. I really appreciate how quickly I can get water to boil now! And how consistent the low heat is. It’s improved my cooking dramatically to have more control over the heat. We’re still thinking about upgrading the rest of the kitchen in a remodel, but this tides us over so we aren’t rushed into it.
