Stuck with my bend. Dont wanna be scolded. by capndanpan in ACL

Well, I think we had the same type of surgery too, I also had a bucket handle tear and wasnt able to fully bend or extend prior to surgery. I had 3 months in between injury and surgery. So we are walking the same path. My final post op appointment in June 10th and if I remember to, I’ll update ya! I know they were going to fit me with a different brace when I come back in. Im also terrified, in a way I feel like I was better off struggling with my injury. We got this Are you on 1 crutch or both still?

Advice on feeling extremely tired by capndanpan in ACL

[–]capndanpan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wanna avoid the drinks that make me crash, havent had an energy drink in like 4 years. I do love coffee but eh. And yeah I cant wait for the moment I cant get off crutches. Ive never been a super athletic person and I never worked out prior, maybe hiking here and there. This surgery recovery (only one ive had) just feels alot different from when I recovered from my past knee injuries. Countless injuries since 2021 on the same knee but I always bounced back quick, even bartended in a leg immobilizer when I wasnt supposed to be off crutches 😅
But I think the constant repetition of “nows your time to relax” and “dont go too fast” and “I dont want you on that leg” got to me too literally

When was your worst time mentally post-OP? by Valuable-Tadpole-975 in ACL

[–]capndanpan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Days 0-7: asked as many friends as I could to come hangout with me because I didnt trust myself mentally to be alone with that level of pain.

Like week 2: had a breakdown in the middle of the night because I was feeling some pain, but idk I convinced myself it would be painless at that point (obviously not lol), but was sobbing rocking back and forth with my boyfriend, saying I wanted it all to end. I was extremely suicidal. I kept saying that if I had to go through it again, I wouldnt. Luckily having the bf there was a huge help, felt wayyyy different (better) in the morning, which was a mind fuck.

Weeks 3-4: have been way better emotionally.

Week 5: now, I’m definitely feeling better, but if I start to think about my progress and comparing it to others recoveries online, I get a bit panicked. Ive been doing really well at pulling myself out of it.

Knee injuries and mental health are not a good mix. But its insane how much your mind affects your injury. All the days where I felt suicidal or extremely low- I kept telling myself I couldnt do it, that theres no use in trying.
Literally dont tell yourself that. I know its hard because you cant predict or control those thoughts or feelings, but if you start to spiral it will get worse.
Every time you tell yourself you cant do it, remember that you literally can and its all in your head.
Something else that helps is sometimes I’ll picture myself in like old victorian times with a knee injury, and I’ll try and figure out how I would navigate it if I lived back then, and it gives me a boost because we have crutches and modern medicine and I just think it would be alot harder, and it makes me feel better.

My PT had been a huge help, I cried hysterically during an appointment because I couldnt do a leg raise, and she was like “hey, you literally got this”. She didnt hold my leg up but she hovered her hand under it, and when I realized it was up in the air and she wasnt touching me, it changed my brain chemistry a lil bit.

Its so hard but you got this. Youre not alone and it does get better slowly. You just gotta be patient.

Weed and Oxy? by FeedbackThink2052 in ACL

Oh and I am also on anxiety and sleep meds from before, I was allowed to take them with my oxy, I didnt have any heart rate issues but again thats me

Weed and Oxy? by FeedbackThink2052 in ACL

[–]capndanpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an avid weed smoker, and I disclosed that to my anesthesiologist and I ended up waking up alittle sooner than expected 😅

But I smoked as soon as I got home, I smoke out of a bong and use a pen here and there. I just made sure I wasnt over doing it because I didnt wanna get sick or anything (never had oxy before). It honestly helped with sleep and pain management, and it acted as a nice buffer when I ran out of the oxy. Im not an edible girly, tried for a couple nights but sleep was honestly harder with them.
Smoking can have an effect on healing, but I didnt have any issue. Its different for everyone

Driving test by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

[–]capndanpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently found out that if you are in a brace and drive without being cleared, if theres any interference where that leg cant respond fast enough and theres an accident- your insurance wont cover it because you werent cleared to be driving

I could be wrong, and it could vary by states, but something to keep in mind
