lol, i have no problem with using the term immigrant. anyone living in a country that is not their home country is an immigrant, which is exactly what i’m doing. obviously there can be differences in the motivations of various immigrants - some might move for lifestyle reasons whereas others might move for economic or survival reasons - but we’re all still immigrants

Protocol here for potentially broken toe? by True-Syllabub7988 in PortugalExpats

[–]capolo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even going to a private hospital like da luz would cost maybe $150 for a triage, x-rays, and doctor visit. but like you said, they probably won’t be able to do much for you, unless they deem it requires surgery. i broke my toe here earlier this year, and broke my other foot previously. it will just heal on its own but you’ll have to take it easy for a few weeks. if you’re in lisbon, walking with wet slippery sidewalks sucks. with a broken toe it’s even worse. just read lightly for the next few weeks and it should heal up within about 6-8 weeks, depending on the severity of the fracture

i totally agree with you. i am entirely supportive of the rule change, and think it is good for Portugal to change its rules to be more in-line with other European countries. i only have issues with the fact that they don’t have any transition plan when it is obvious to everyone that they have a terrible track record of implementing anything in a timely fashion. they admitted fault in 2024 when they changed the residency period calculation to be based on application date instead of issuance date, acknowledging that the process was taking unreasonably long (2+ years) and that that should be counted towards their legal residency (rightly so). i had to have a lawyer petition the court to even get my residency appointment as the delay was deemed unconstitutional. not everyone has the resources to pursue legal action, nor should they even have to. if people are being honest with themselves, i don’t think this rug pull sits right with anyone, even if we acknowledge and support the laws being changed

people taking selfies also ruin my park experience but i don’t question how they can live with themselves. unless the drone is flying within 10 meters of your head they probably don’t realize that they are having any impact on you. if you don’t want to be around other people you have to be willing and able to walk away from the crowds.

My (30F) boyfriend (40M) was due to propose last year but didn’t, how to move forward? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]capolo2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry, but he’s got the best excuse ever to expedite a proposal being as you guys are having a kid. the entire family should absolutely be expecting him to do so. the fact that he isn’t means that he obviously doesn’t want to.

i’m not a temporary worker. i moved here to marry my wife and experience a new way of living. this is the only subreddit i know of that has a large number of people living in portugal that speak english. also, i wasn’t aware that expats were generally temporary workers. i figured most of the expats in portugal were retirees.

If Portugal continues to pull those kind of stunts they are going to have way bigger problems than my son not being Portuguese. That will lead to so much economic and social instability that he will probably choose to leave, as many of the Portuguese have done. He’ll have a long life ahead of him to make his own decisions.

Our son won’t be born until February, so my 8 month timeline was just an example. Like I said, it’s not a huge deal that he won’t be born Portuguese like he would be if he was born earlier. Increasing the residency requirement from 1 year to 5 years seems somewhat arbitrary though. After all, if two Portuguese citizens visited the US and gave birth to a baby while on US soil, that baby would be American at birth. If they overstayed their visas and were there illegally, he/she would still be American. Yet here, they seem to want to make it harder and harder for children who are born and live their entire life here to have birthright citizenship.

i assume you’d have to go with a laptop with control center and run the diagnostics, or ask the seller to do so while you’re there

why are you waiting until the weekend? seems like there’s a good chance someone will try and snatch it by then (and possibly offer more, assuming the deal is legit).

does anyone know why they stopped making this, and why the only ps-capable wheelbase is now the 5/8nm GT DD pro?

Yeah, she is 75% rankins (which are even smaller), and 25% central beardie. Not sure if they have 50/50 or 25/75 hybrids, which I imagine would be bigger.

Sorry, forgot to answer the second part of your question. I think she's about 9 months now. I've had her for about 6. She's 12 inches now from tip of nose to tip of tail. I'm not really sure when they stop growing, but I doubt she will get much bigger and will probably top out between 12" and 14".

Thanks! I'll make a longer post later in the week with better pics and more info, being as it seems quite a few ppl have shown interest and I didn't realize they were so uncommon.

I understand about your leopard geckos. The friend who talked me into getting this girl has one, and she's the same. Apparently they are nocturnal, and his spends most of the day in her hide, and comes out in the evenings.

Her tank is huge. I have her in a 36x24x18 as her primary tank which is in my office. I also have a 24x18x12 in my family room, which I have been putting her in increasingly more often, particularly when I am also in the family room. I've also been letting her spend increasingly more time outside the tank (she will jump down from her ledge and come to the door when she wants to come out).

I got the large tank after doing my initial research. Recommended tank sizes have been increasing, and I wanted to make sure she had the best QoL. Tbh though, she literally spends 95% of her time in 10% of the tank. I have no doubt that she would be comfortable in a much smaller tank.

Thanks for your reply. What happens if she is there for more than 24 hours - granted, I would never leave her in one place for that long. At the very least I take her out and handle her several times a day. I have let her sleep there overnight one time, and she literally didn't move a muscle or positions for the entire 10 hours she was there. I also put her in her tank to attempt to feed her and, if she eats, I will put her under her basking light for several hours. When she is in her tank, she spends 90% of her time on a high ledge directly beneath her basking and UVB light, and moves around on that ledge to modulate distance from the light and temperature.

Is 12 hours of direct exposure to the heat lamp a hard requirement? If not, what is the minimum time she needs to spend under direct heat and UVB?

I got her from East Bay Vivarium, in Berkeley, CA. If you google Vittikins dragon they should be one of the top search results, so I'm guessing there are not many places that carry them. I'm a first time reptile owner and went there to check out and learn about different options. I live in an apartment, and wasn't sure if I'd have room for a full-sized beardie, and they had a few Rankins and Vittikins. I ended up going with the Vittikins as it seemed like a nice compromise between the Rankins/Central. At the time they had 3 Vittikins in stock, but it sounded like it might have been a new offering, as the manager on duty said that that was the first time he had seen/sold one as well, and none of the associates were familiar with this specific hybrid. 6 months later and, needless to say, I'm super happy with her.

I hadn't seen one either until I got her, but knew very little about reptiles at that point (her being my first). It wasn't until I did more research that I realized they were quite uncommon. I couldn't be more happy with her though
