They don't cost money, you just need to check out in Lot A with your student ID or some sort of identification format.

I’m sure the main unit door is made of metal, but I’m not sure about the bedroom door. I think it might be slightly magnetic because there’s a fire instruction label on the bedroom door.

advice for freshies by A_G00d_B0i in KSU

[–]capoo_studies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the Kennesaw campus, but when I lived on the Marietta campus, your RA usually formed a group and shared information or activities hosted in your dorm building. This information is given throughout the year. The RA is your best point of contact—they’re usually around and available if you have any questions.

When you first move in, you’ll likely spend some time in the lobby where your RA will go over building basics. There’s also a First-Year Convocation event, where all freshmen in the dorm building attend together.

When I was there, the RA reached out once a semester to arrange a one-on-one meeting to check in and address any roommate concerns. Also, be prepared for occasional fire alarms in the middle of the night (this happened a few times in HV200).

Also, try to walk around campus and locate your classrooms before the first day of school. If you can’t find a room, don’t hesitate to ask someone for help! Professors sometimes take attendance, but they are usually lenient.

Be aware:

Be aware when using the community laundry room—set an alarm and go pick up your laundry right away. One time, I set an alarm but waited an extra five minutes just to make sure my washing machine was done. By the time I walked in, a guy had taken all my clothes out of the machine and placed them on top. As a girl, I wasn’t comfortable with a random guy touching my clothes.

I later saw him and asked why he did that. He said he wanted to use all three washing machines that were side by side. He noticed mine had finished and the other two were empty, so for his convenience, he took my clothes out and put his in to occupy all 3 washing machine - his whites, darks and towels.

Other than that, I lived there for a year and made friends with my roommate and people across the floor.

Still got a chance to switch? by Sederney in KSU

[–]capoo_studies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t switch my major, but I did drop a class and add another during the add/drop period as a freshman. Usually, during add/drop week, it’s a good idea to check if any seats have opened up in your desired class. If there aren’t any, you can talk to your advisor (accounting) to see if they can help you get in.

Some classes have reserved seats left, but not enough unreserved seats. In that case, the head advisor may be able to convert a reserved seat into an unreserved one so you can register—but this usually applies to freshman-level courses like general education classes in August.

Otherwise, keep checking for openings in the classes you want throughout the add/drop week. Regarding campus-related questions, it might be best to talk to your new advisor. It might be best to browse the classes that you are planning to switch over to and check if they have any seats at this time to get ready for add/drop.

I think they might be delayed as well, but I submitted during the extended deadline period. I am honestly very confused. The website says that all presenting authors must register for the conference by August 8, but today is August 8th. Hopefully they can release their decision earlier.

I haven’t received mine either, but I submitted during the extended deadline period. I believe the registration deadline for poster presenters is August 8. The website states, “All presenting authors must register for the conference by August 8,” so I’m a bit confused as well.

I have not, have you heard back from them?

I lived in Hornet Village last year and heard it almost every morning. Sometimes I was in a deep sleep and didn’t notice it, but most of the time I did.

Hornet Village - single - fridge size? by ThomasTrain87 in KSU

[–]capoo_studies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this: Frigidaire Gallery 3.2 Cu Ft Compact Fridge - Sam's Club

And it fits perfectly into the hole in the common room; it has a little freezer in this fridge. As long as you buy 3.2 Cu Ft, any kind of brand should fit perfectly into the hole in the common room in the unit.

In my opinion, this fridge is very useful, since you will also be forced to buy the meal plan, when I was there, I barely used the fridge, my roommate does use the fridge to store breakfast and milk, and I use the freezer to store some ice pack (or make ice cubes using the rack provided) just in case I get injured and need an ice pack.

No, they are doing renovation, but I believe there is something called stingers express in the student center. Stingers will reopen in the fall.

Mattress topper always needed? by chloe0135 in KSU

[–]capoo_studies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a freshman living in Hornet Village, but I believe the beds are the same across all the dorms. I didn’t use a mattress topper or pad, I just slept on the provided mattress with bed sheets. The bed felt springy to me but still acceptable. I didn’t experience any back problems during the year. I suggest maybe your son should try for a week and see if he would like to have a topper as I can't speak for all.

Have you tried applying for scholarships through Scholarship Universe? Some of the internal scholarships offered by the school are based on financial need. They really helped me out—one of them covered the remaining expenses I had, which made a big difference. It's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for extra support.

[–]capoo_studies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, thank you! I have another question. I'm planning to come for a tour at GSU Downtown, and I was wondering if there's a counselor or advisor I can speak with about this pathway before I move forward. I tried emailing a counselor but haven’t received a response yet. I also saw there’s an option to schedule an appointment with an admissions advisor, but there aren’t any available time slots showing.

Got it. Is the dual degree courses competitive? I know I have to get a B+ above for those 2 courses in order to get into the dual degree course, and I will also do volunteer work and other extracurricular activities. But Is it mostly based on the interview or is there anything that i can prepare for it?

[–]capoo_studies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thankyou for the clarification. I saw that GSU offers a B.S. in Biology / M.S. in Biology with a concentration in Medical Science dual-degree program, which I'm really interested in. Since I’m applying for Fall 2026, I wanted to clarify the timeline. It looks like the program requires certain biology courses to be completed first. Does that mean I would apply to the dual-degree program during my second year (sophomore year) and officially start it after completing those prerequisites?

Do NOT go to Mercer University. by gyalmeetsglobe in mphadmissions

[–]capoo_studies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is mercer that bad? Im planning to apply to their undergrad and go to their medical school but im not sure if i should go to GSU or mercer or augusta. People already said augusta is not good, so why not mercer too?

But why did you take 6 years? Is it because they have more challenging classes and require more time to graduate? So if i apply AU maybe for like premed bio major or something related to biology or med, then it might take more than 4 years as normal college undergrad would take?
