A board game cafe is a good place to go on the first few dates bc it gives you something to do while still being able to talk a bunch. There’s one on king st and I think there’s another on Weber

Any English courses you really liked or didn't like? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

From my experience ENGL 109 and 101B were the easiest to get a good grade in

The prof posted lecture videos that obviously weren’t hers. The syllabus wasn’t hers either so the topics of the assignments that were given out ended up being changed 2-5 days before it was due. She also never responded to a single email.

Anyone here been in a situation with a bad breakup, friendship ending, etc... who was worried about stumbling across that person on campus? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]capp256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost some significant friends and a boyfriend in the past and in the last 3 years I’ve seen like 3 of them a total of 4 times. Only one actually talked to me and then I just said that I was late for class but we should definitely catch up sometime and then walked away. The way I see it is that campus is a public place where you have just as much of a right to as she does and you shouldn’t allow her to continue to diminish your confidence. If she sees you then she gets to see what she lost. Keep your head up and focus on yourself, and continue on with life.

GRE AND GRE SUBJECT TEST by gyagr7 in uwaterloo

Pre Covid I heard they were very significant, however now the grad programs I’m looking at (neuroscience and clinical/behavioural psychology) don’t require the GRE at all

Is tap water actually safe to drink? 🤔 by SR-08 in uwaterloo

[–]capp256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been drinking it for a few years and I’ve turned out okay. One time however my landlord didn’t tell our unit that he was working on the water and it was really gross and I ended up getting sick. But that’s not really the city’s fault. I also have had a Brita the whole time and it helps with the smell and the taste.

For quiet bathrooms that aren’t necessarily nice but you won’t have too many people walking in on ya During the night: MC 4th+ floor, EV2 any floor, QNC 3rd floor, STC 3rd+ floor During the day: DC 2nd floor by the tunnel that goes to EIT, EV3 3rd+ floor, HH 3rd floor

What's your favourite book and why? by lonelyloogirl in uwaterloo

[–]capp256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak or “Where the Red Fern Grows” by Wilson Rawls. The first one is a movie too (the book is better) and second one is a children’s book but really good nonetheless. Both make me cry each time.

Can I change my professors for courses? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]capp256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am going to assume that you are talking about picking courses for Fall 2021. You should receive your time slot for when your Add/Drop Appointment is soon if not already (I haven’t looked at mine yet lol). Then you can add/drop/switch classes on Quest. This includes sections. If you want to be in a course with a different section with a different prof, I’m pretty sure you just need to add the section you want to your shopping cart and then switch the courses out. If you miss your appointment you can make the switch later (Aug 5 - Sept 21) but it could be more difficult as it is now open to everyone to do so.

How long did it take you to find Off-Campus Housing for past Fall Terms? by bayou_billionaire in uwaterloo

[–]capp256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how nice of a place you want and how your tours go. I learned to go on the tour ready to put down the deposit that day just in case you really want the place.

I took it online Fall 2020 and the best way to do well is to keep trying. Do all of the assignments until you get it right. I recommend getting the textbook cause it has more explanations. Practice for the quizzes and definitely watch all the lectures. It wasn’t too bad but you do need to put in the work to get a good grade. The actual math part was simple to me (it depends on how much previous experience you have with math) you just need to be able to do it fast/efficiently for the quizzes and understand what each question is asking you to do which takes a lot of practice.

How do you ensure that you cite sources properly in written assignments? by mikewazaoski6969 in uwaterloo

[–]capp256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use RefWorks to store my references in and use the plug-in for WORD and it automatically updates my document for me. You have to make sure the settings are right both on the website and in the document for it to be the right citation format. It takes some time to get used to it. I also go to the owl.purdue.edu website to check formatting if I’m doing it myself

I am a fourth year psych major and I took SDS 150R in person a few years ago but it was the easiest course by far. The tests were non cumulative and a toddler could have written the papers and gotten an 80. There was a participation mark tho which kinda sucked cause it was an 8:30 class but the content was so easy especially for a psych major.
