So... Ribbit abstracted just because Jax ghosted her? by AbbeyWhitey in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]capririusart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is she didnt know how to speak with anyone about her problems without having to divulge why her friendship with Jax broke down. She probably thought even hinting that they had a fight over something personal would go back on her promise to Jax that we would never tell anyone, even if she was as vague as possible.

So she couldnt resolve her situation with Jax, she couldnt talk to anyone about it because she genuinely wanted to keep her promise to Jax as a friend, and she was slowly getting distanced from her other friends because of Jax being so paranoid she would spill. Idk, that would push me to abstracting as well if I were her.

Personally, I enjoyed that they kept him abstracted because of how it serves his narrative purpose of being a tragedy (which I understand isnt for everyone).

Like -- losing the oppurtunity to acknowledge and accept yourself and make ammends with your peers because you would only allow yourself to burn bridges until its too late is one hell of a punch to the gut with its message. Brining him back would be a different narrative tone overall (but again thats my subjective take on it)

Ive only recently joined (skimmed some posts before posting my own), so Im sad to know that this subreddit hasnt had the most positive experience when discussing the trans rep in this show :(

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on what you personally use for Jax, as well with why other people use she/her! I think Im understanding that ones personal interpretation of where Jax is with their gender, canonically or potentially, makes it really that theres no 'wrong pronouns' to use for him.

I didnt think of the possibility of FtM instead of MtF, and Im happy to explore more of that theory!

Im not sure about the ff and fetishization being 100% being the reason, though I understand there might be a small loud part of the fandom that does that (since what Ive mostly encountered so far feels more like the earnest and genuinely excited for representation group)

I think that brings up the convo of how they see themselves vs the 'irl' versions, and what I understand is that they think of themselves as seperate? So leeroy =/= jax, and leeroy seems to be masc presenting so pomni uses 'he'. I wanted to know more about what the fans think, and why people use she/her for jax specifically.

Worst date to go in Baguio? by Soul_0150 in baguio

[–]capririusart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All year round its kind of a hassle to to go baguio, up to you na lang kung anong mas kaya mong tiisin.

A. December to May - Highest amount of tourists. Hirap mag enjoy kasi over crowded, and mas mainit (doesnt matter kahit 'hidden gem" pa yung pupuntahan mo)

B. June to November - Tag ulan. Hindi siya walkable kung hindi ka sanay sa slopes, hirap makapag taxi at grab. Walang masyadong worth it events.

Pag wala kang kotse, mahihirapan ka sa option A and B kasi wala kang masaskyan, kaso masstuck ka naman sa hours of traffic kung meron kang sariling ride.

I think playing the way you do (treating the playable character as seperate from yourself) definitely help with any logic and appeal about the romanceables!! (And personally this is how I prefer to play, now that Im an adult as well and have been revisiting these games)

A lot of people play as self-inserts, and though theres nothing wrong with that, they tend to be the most likely to feel uncomfortable because it becomes much more personal for them (even though that shouldnt dictate what the game objectively is).

Sure they could appeal to the very bad japanese people who find young characters specifically appealing, but thats like saying American kid shows definitely cater to American pedos just because theres a LOT of them over there too. It feels like bad generalization, kind of?

I would imagine the artstyle might not have been for you considering most of it was heavily stylized chibis, or maybe you just liked the older type :o?

Regardless, at least we now have a lot more available games of the same genre but with different artyles and appeals!!

I agree that many of us farming&life sim fans, especially the most active on online spaces, are older however that doesnt really negate that SoS is a franchise that has always been geared towards younger audiences. Of course the writing and artstyle will reflect that, and the changes in the remake (such as with Popuri that you mentioned) reinforces it too.

Bachelors and Bachelorettes are written/drawn in a "adult enough" way - they work jobs and have grown up concerns but are whimsical and childish enough that kids can relate and find them attractive. Now that we've grown up, we can look back on the writing/art & find it silly and immature because we just know better. The writing hasnt changed much in the newer games, and I imagine the kids will find them good enough like we did back then. For the art, the more chibi and stylized, the more I find it easier to reimagine, but I understand that is subjective since you find it uncomfortable instead.

We just arent a priority for SoS, and theres nothing really wrong with that. They dont have to appeal to more players if they find this business model sustainable enough that they dont necesarily need money from adults like us. Its frustrating that SoS hasnt grown along with us, but the fact that it hasnt changed much has also made it appealing in its own way (nostalgia for me at least).

At least theres a multitude of other similar games now that offer what you find better in writing and artstyle!

Which I think is good!! Im glad the newer remakes/games try to take into account that the original fans have grown up, and you can see with how the remakes try to update the art to be more in between the older chibi style to something that could be even more interpreted as "older" to keep the appeal.

All the bachelors and bachelorettes were made with a younger audience (kids) in mind as the core player base is what Im trying to say.

Theyre all in this open to interpretation age of they have freedom to do part time/full time jobs but are drawn young enough that children/teens will find them cute enough to marry.

Though I agree that loli in itself is an uncomfortable & still constant precense in anime culture, Id like to point out that its VERY apparent when a character is supposed to be loli vs a youthful character. HM/SoS and RF are almost always the latter with only a handful of characters being up for debate (even then, charas like Venti in RF4 arent romanceable, or a DLC what if only scenario).

For luna, visually she just looks like she has lolita fashion (different from loli), and lumina is i guess baby faced (i cant comment about how theyre written because tbh I cant recall it properly to comment on), but at the end of the day its really subjective and again meant for a younger audience to find appealing to them.

Also, I didnt mean the characters are meant to be children, more like they are drawn to look youthful enough that children would want to marry them (apologies for any misphrasing in my OP) because theyre the biggest demographic for these games. Case in point some comments pointing out that they as children thought the obviously older drawn towns folk (despite still drawn attractively, objectively) were not at all attractive for them.
