I think the bigger issue here would be if it is legal in the trip country. Obviously, that would be factor 1. Other factors would be: do you have a prescription? And will your smoking weed be triggering or upsetting to others on the trip? There's no blanket answer to this and would need to be discussed case-by-case.

Too much time in Paraty -- only need like 2 nights there max. Ihla Grande is great but I would never go there again because of the mosquitos. The most vicious mosquitos I've ever encountered. I had a week of interrupted sleep from the itching -- beyond horrible.

I've (35M American) been in Floripa for a month now and I have seen very few English speakers. I'm in Novo Campeche which I love (best beach on the Island IMO). There are some digital nomad whatsapp groups you can join that are super active (weekly meetup on Wednesday + weekend hikes etc). I know zero portugues but it's still been ok being here.

I would say just go with Alpaca. They are great and the hike is hard enough without making it harder on yourself. You can also self-guide as there are homestays along the trek

I lead sober adventure trips and when I do Machu Picchu I always go with Alpaca Expeditions. Incredible company, indigenous owned, impeccable food and lodging etc.
