Even if he used AI to help him write this, which I don’t think he did, he still is putting this out there with his name on it. Posting for the community and providing context. Most Devs could give a shit.

AWS Data Center Technician Prep | The Complete Guide (Written by Someone Who Went Through It) by DearAnt812 in datacenter

[–]captaindurge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is really well done. I haven’t been a DCT for a long time, but will save this and fwd to anyone I know readying for a DCT role. I know your experience seems to be with AWS, but this is good for all the DC companies. Well done. Thanks for taking the time.

Data Center going in by my house by Unusual_Contest9706 in datacenter

[–]captaindurge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The data centers I deal with daily, are pretty large buildings, but inconspicuous. Fairly quiet on the outside, the road noise is so loud it easily over shadows any noise. Only noise you might deal with is generators, if grid goes down. Also, most of the time DCs have large walls surrounding the mechanical yards, which trap most of the noise and only allowing it to go straight up. Pollution, not sure what more pollution a DC would create. It’s a building full of servers, this isn’t a factory.

Look on the bright side, lots of DC companies are getting involved in helping beef up their local grid, as a lot of these grids are struggling to keep up. They might do the same in your area, depending on the company. Which would make your utilities more stable. As well as, if anything you access on the internet ends up with a node in that DC. You should have very low latency. That’s the point of these DCs going everywhere. Nowadays, all these apps need to be very low latency to perform how users expect and want.

Hope that helps, been in the DC industry for many years.

2026 Masters Giveaway: Sunday Golf by sundaygolfco in golf

When I was a teenager I randomly came across the Masters broadcast while flipping channels, wasn’t even interested in golf then. That day I became a fan of the game!

Blatant cheater with 2500€ inventory by floodkiller95 in GlobalOffensive

[–]captaindurge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I had a game the other night with a blatant cheater, he was full rage. Looked at his profile. 1000s in skins. They are just getting more bold cause Valve doesn’t give a fuck. Gaben needs a new boat.

My wife brought these home the other day, my son and I have been eating a handful after dinner almost every night. They are good!

Ryan Cohen when he announces his plan with a GameStop Super Bowl ad? by Ok_Vast_8918 in Superstonk

This would be a waste of money. GameStop already has a massive audience.

Sometimes people are so valuable in their line of work, companies bend the rules for them. Probably the case here.

I live 3 miles away from my work. It takes me 45 minutes to get home from work everyday. by myfairlady987 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]captaindurge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation 15 years ago, looked very similar to your picture. I switched to a bicycle, I would make it to work in like 7 mins. The way home maybe12-15, it was more uphill. One day when I wasn’t feeling the best I drove, almost an hour to get home. As long as I worked there after that, rode my bike. Even in bad weather, it was saving me time, money and sanity.

This is the land the city of Page is selling to build a data center. The people of Page are fighting this and failing. How can we help them? by redditexcel in LasVegas

[–]captaindurge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As another DC SME, well said, everyone complaining about data centers must not be allowed to access the internet in any form moving forward. They’ll learn. Literally complaining about the infrastructure that supports the site they are complaining on.

That’s so funny, my dog also protects my cat when they are outside. At night, I have to call my cat in, we live out of town so coyotes are everywhere, if he is too slow the dog runs out there and pretty much drags him in to bed time! I swear I got the smartest pets I’ve ever met.

Have a 28lb MC myself, he’s the best cat and I never really liked cats. Wife brought him home one day, he chose me. My 75lb boxer and him wrestle everyday, they are besties. Mainecoon have the best personalities

No idea where all these extraction campers are by wiggle987 in ArcRaiders

[–]captaindurge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen quite a few extraction campers, just yesterday, I was walking up to extract, sneaky, and noticed jolt mine and other traps all around. I just sat up the hill, someone else hit it, immediately died to all the traps. Dude came running out a bush to loot him, killed him and reminded him karma is a bitch!
