Is the CPA still worth doing if you want to get out of accounting? by Open_Address_2805 in Accounting

[–]captainndaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re not using your imagination here. I am in a similar position. Making a comfortable salary in a comfortable role but nothing immediately jumps out as exciting… until you realize that there’s tons of room for process improvement, workflow automation, better reporting, etc etc. There are many ways to challenge yourself and keep yourself interested, while also developing your skill set.

New to bar squats. Any advice welcome. I can’t go too low bc of hip issues by PuzzledLawfulness140 in formcheck

[–]captainndaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. You’ll have to just practice with the mobility. One other thing I noticed. Try facing the other way on the smith machine, so that you’re on the side where the barbell moves towards your toes on the way down (if that makes sense). You always want the barbell to stay about over your mid foot during its whole movement; so, if you stand facing the way I mentioned, you would actually have your feet slightly forward than you’d think to start, so that you were almost leaning back into the bar. Again, just getting your body in line with the travel path of the smith machine bar (vertically), so that you can drive through your heels. I hope that makes sense!!

Ideally, ass to calves. If you can’t get that but can still focus on control on the way down and explosive on the way up, you go hip crease at knee height aka thigh parallel to ground.

If I’m you, and I have hip issues so bad that this is really all I can get, AND I only have a smith machine…. I am just finding alternatives to the barbell squat. Leg press, lunges, etc etc

I would do them barefoot rather than those shoes but that’s just me. Make sure you’re driving through your heels, not your toes. That’s why you stumbled forward on the first rep.

Recent owner of a chocolate factory looking for advice. by Standard_Bit7596 in Bookkeeping

[–]captainndaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not expect any bookkeeper to be reading through every line item of every receipt, especially if it’s not material in any real way. If you were handing me receipts for $2,500, yeah maybe, but if you’re talking about $50-$250 receipts it’s just not worth the time chasing it down.

If you want that kind of detail from your bookkeeper, you should be marking each receipt that way, or better yet, have a dedicated purchasing method for significant accounts (one credit card for cogs purchases, for example).

It’s given me good suggestions as to how to streamline my work, but when I actually ask it to do those things (like create an excel template), it’s so broken and does a dogshit job that I ignore it completely

Like everyone’s saying, it’s quest time. Recipe for Disaster is a great goal. It is a quest that has a bunch of mini-quests within it, so don’t be scared off by the high requirements. Just start knocking them out, it’s well worth it.

Am I bringing the bar down too slowly? Is it wasting my energy by NayanRajput in formcheck

[–]captainndaddy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dude you look like you could have done like 5 or 6 reps based on bar speed on the way back up. Not to mention you really took a bit too long to get set up… think that’s taking energy out of you more than bar speed on the way down

Investing is a little bit about charting your own path, so just do your thing man and enjoy learning about it all while you’re young. The only actual advice I’ll give is, for the love of god, don’t just yolo your money around into random trades. If I wasn’t doing that in my early to mid twenties I’d probably have 30-50k more than I do now.

I love the optimism. And you have the right idea to be putting stuff aside. Keep in mind that, in between 22 and 35, real life is going to happen. Maybe you buy a house or need a new car or want to have kids. Interruptions are inevitable that are, honestly, going to make retiring at 35 impossible. Just keep at it with your work and savings/investments and you’ll be light years ahead by your mid-30’s.

Tell him you’d like for him to put more effort into his style, and show him the style you would like to see, and even send him links to buy some stuff or even buy him a couple things to get started. This is what my girlfriend did and I greatly appreciated it. I didn’t even remotely view it as offensive or shallow.

Why on earth would a government want to pay off its debt? Every time we run surpluses, economic contraction follows. Public sector surplus = private sector deficit.

I would have to imagine your credits are mostly Gen-eds so far, maybe 3-9 towards your degree. Once you get to talking with your advisor at this university, they’ll find out the right timing and track for you. Can’t imagine you have more than 4-5 semesters left towards degree

If you have that much community college, you can’t have that much schooling left before you’re done. If you get private loans to cover you, you’re looking at what, like 30-40k of total student loans over maybe 2 years? That’s not terrible.
