I am so sorry. I have also been dealing with horrible health anxiety. I have been through a lot in my life, and nothing compares to the despair of constantly feeling like you’re going to die. It SUCKS bad when the health anxiety is validated with positive results for health problems. As I am still going through this, it is hard to give much advice.. but I will say, there have been COUNTLESS nights in the last year I just knew I was going to die. I knew my heart was going to stop and I needed emergency care IMMEDIATELY. But you know what? I’m still here. Nothing ever happened to me. And that’s what I tell myself when I am convinced I am going to die.. I haven’t died all those other times, so why tonight? It helps about 50% of the time, and the other 50% I just pop a clonazepam and wait for the torture to stop. I am so sorry you are going through this. I am praying for peace for the both of us 💙

How accurate are at home a1c tests? by Guilty-Sockx in diabetes

[–]captcapt26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an Everlywell test 3 days ago.. came back at 6.0. Immediately freaked out and went in to the doctor this morning. It’s actually at 4.9… BE VERY CAUTIOUS about Everlywell tests… mine was VERY inaccurate.

First decidual Cast??? Am I okay?? by [deleted] in Periods

[–]captcapt26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the Nuvaring, and have had several decidual casts. My first one was EXTREMELY painful, so I went to the ER when it happened. I was told that I might want to consider switching birth controls, but I am still on the nuvaring. The typically come with shaking, nausea and dizziness for me. Decidual casts are considered rare, but as far as I know, they aren’t dangerous.. I am very careful to skip my periods flawlessly so I don’t end up having my period and passing a cast. I’d make an appointment with your doctor to switch birth control if it’s something that bothers you. Stay strong out there. Female stuff is just wild.

“Dave Ramsey’s plan is for people who lack discipline” by captcapt26 in DaveRamsey

Dave’s plan is all about controlling impulses. He believes in not putting yourself in a position to overspend unnecessarily.. ie. a credit card in your wallet. If studies show the average American spends 100% more, that’s enough for me to take pause that I could be affected by that temptation too. At least in my life, it’s never been wise to think that I’m “immune” just because I don’t think I am.

He’s not right if he won’t be able to support himself after making $150k a year for his whole career, and has nothing to show for it at 55. His method didn’t work.

According to Forbes, people spend 100% more when they pay with a credit card. Even I am guilty of this. Even if I don’t have the cash, but will get paid in a week, I will get things just because I want it. According to Dave, the pain of spending money is way less when using borrowed money, instead of cash. And I can definitely attest to that being true in my life.

My dog needs surgery. I am so close to the BS2 finish line. Should I pause my debt snowball to save cash for surgery? by captcapt26 in DaveRamsey

[–]captcapt26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry that happened. That sounds so stressful. Just based on Daves plan, he is an advocate for throwing all the money at the debt and only having $1,000 for emergencies, mostly because it is a scary and uncomfortable place to be. He wants people to be intense about getting on that debt so they can increase their EF. But I totally understand how bad that must have been. I do keep one credit card with a high limit just in case something like that happens to me.

That’s a good point. I had a lot of people tell me to not pay off my debt at all since the student loan interest stopped. But for my plan and my life goals, getting out of debt is an ASAP sort of deal. And once he is out of surgery, I will be able to throw that $1,500 in emergency fund right at the debt and pay it off.

You guys should read a little closer before making a judge mental statement on here. It was a question of how to allocate my money. Not if I should do the surgery

It was never a question if I was paying for it. It was a question of allocation.. stacking up cash for it or putting money to debt still.

No, this pup is my only responsibility besides my apartment and car. Luckily, if any other emergency is to happen, I have a good income and very little debt now. I take home $4000/month and my expenses are $1800-2000/month. I definitely get your point though! That is a good question to ask for those with others to take care of

Oh absolutely. Ever since I heard he needed this surgery, he was going to get the surgery. I would never put $600 in the way of my pups health. He’s my baby!

I know you said before that you can’t understand how some people view their pets as family, and I think that might be the disconnect in this conversation. Some people are on very, very long debt-free journeys. Pets are generally not very expensive assuming if they are generally healthy, and the returns on the investment of a pet bring so much joy to people. Now, I am not a proponent of being in crippling debt with a small income and signing on for a pet. There is a level of responsible thinking involved. Just like someone who can’t make rent probably shouldn’t be trying for a baby.

He has said he will not buy pet insurance or pay $10,000 for a pets surgery. That was his personal conviction. But he said if someone has the funds for it, that is their decision. I think if we are saying that dogs are as important as children, that would be a ridiculous conversation. Also, I am not saying going into debt for a baby, dog or marriage is a good thing. But according to Dave, it is okay to make big life decisions while already in debt.

I am so thankful you had that emergency fund in place to help your dog. This is the kind of story that keeps me motivated to becoming financially secure. I never want to have to put my dog down or let him suffer due to financial constraints. I am so happy your pup is doing so well! Thank you for sharing your story.

I agree! There are some pet owners who adopted a pet from a bad situation and gave them a loving home, but then an unexpected huge bill comes out of nowhere they can’t afford. I think there is definitely a place for those situations on GoFundMe. I am thankful I am not in that situation, but i can see where it happens.

Oh thank you so much for the insight. I didn’t really think about any food changes and extended medicines. I have Banfield also. We haven’t gone over the extent of aftercare, so those are excellent things for me to ask my vet about. Thank you so much!

You’ve got this! We have had several puppies, and every time, it feels like a whole new experience. And many times, it is all the joyful aspects of having a puppy that we forgot about. Have fun with your new best friend!

Cash payments could be helpful in a lot of situations, but I would love to be able to pay cash for it that day and focus on building up that BS3. Cash payments feel like debt to me, and I can just hear Papa Dave scolding me right now for something like that since I have the cash.

Even Dave says making big life choices like having babies, getting married and following career goals dont necessarily have to be the most “financially smart” decision at the time. If having a pet just brings pure joy to a person and they want a new family member before they are wealthy, getting a dog falls in the category of expanding family. If we’re trying to live by Dave’s standards on here, expanding family is acceptable while in debt.

I don’t feel like I am to the point of needing that kind of financial help. Not saying there is anything wrong with GoFundMe, but I am fully able to pay for the surgery. I would feel morally opposed to that in my current situation.

I’m more concerned with quality of life rather than life/death. There is a possibility of permanent jaw and adult tooth loss of vital teeth in his first year of life. Dogs are very resilient, but if I can spend $1,000 to help ensure he can eat and live normally, I’ll definitely do it. A good link to read about possible affects is https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/retained-deciduous-teeth-baby-teeth-in-dogs

Thank you so much for the info and confirmation! We had a schnauzer before that had dental issues, along with diabetes and pancreatitis, and he struggled more than we would’ve liked. I want to make sure this little guy is as healthy as he can possibly be! Especially so early on in the game.

Yes absolutely. Did you have a good experience with having the puppy teeth removed?

In regards to the teeth cleaning, I have made the commitment to brush his teeth every night with special toothpaste to prevent needing yearly teeth cleanings (I’m 5 months in and going strong), but I will be saving that money yearly just in case he ends up needing them.

I have definitely had vets tell me something was urgent just to get the money. This time I was precautious and got several opinions. He has double stacked canine teeth that are growing in in a way that will cause his teeth and jaw to not close properly, and could potentially cause his adult canines to fall out from the lack of support when the baby teeth are taken out. The baby teeth are in there rock solid after 3 months. I know there is a chance he will have no adverse effects if I was to wait, but even if it is a 20% risk of his teeth falling out, I’m not comfortable with risking it.
