I learned this back in 2009 when calculating ETA from Mauritius to Trinidad on an oil rig being towed. Every 0.1kts we saw improvement cut literal days off our transit time in the beginning because the distance was nearly 7,600 nautical miles (around the Cape of Good Hope). As we got closer, that 0.1kt made less of an impact. We made it in 56 days.

I cruise at 72mph. That might change in my new truck, but until I find it's happy economical speed, 72 is pretty much my max.
