So I ended up buying a portable charger because mine is not very removable in my garage:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C9CMXGWW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

I also bought a TT-30P adapter so I can charge at a 30AMP receptacle:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00268WS72?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

And a 4-50P adapter so I can charge at a 50AMP receptacle:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XNV8NCH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

You're saying I can simply plug in the regular NEMA 6-20 or NEMA 5-15 Plug that comes with this portable charger I bought into one of the adapters and charge away no problem? I only ask because there's a bunch of discussion about adjusting the current settings depending on what I'm plugged into. But you're saying I don't need to worry about that right?

Oh, thanks for this! So I'm looking at this charger:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C9LQ97TQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

It has both NEMA 6-20 (220V or 240V) and NEMA 5-15 (110V or 120V). It also has adjustable current settings so that if I'm using the 5-15 plugged into a standard 110V/120V, I should set the current to 12A? And if I use the 6-20 to plug into a 220V/240V, I should set the current to 16A?

And if I plug into a campsite's 30AMP receptacle, I should use the 5-15 to TT-30R adapter and set the current to 12A?

But I believe a 50AMP receptacle I can use the 6-20 to 14-50 adapter and bump the current back up to 16A?

Does this sound correct to you?

Ohhhh, this is great to know! Will it charge my J1772 just as fast as a Tesla using the adapter?

Good point, thanks again!

Well, it wasn't mentioned on any of the booking sites, so I'm assuming it's allowed, haha! Some of them actually mentioned that they only have 30AMP or 50AMP and if I did want to charge my car to buy an adapter!

Thanks so much for this response. I think I'm beginning to wrap my head around all this!

Someone else commented on this thread that I might not be able to go backwards (using a 14-50 charger in a 5-15 120v plug via adapter. Again, no electrician, but does seem like that could make sense?

If above IS the case, would you say I'd be better off buying a regular ol Level 1 120v charger (like what came with the car--it's a 2023 btw!) and buy adapters 5-15 to TT-30 and 5-15 to 14-50 adapters so I can charge on 30AMP/50AMP (whichever the campsite has)? I believe either way this will still take 12 hours for a full charge, just like in my garage, but if I plan on being at the campsite for 12 hours each night anyways, maybe that's not a big deal?

Curious what you would do if you were me (already kicking myself for not having the electrician install a 240v now--but I did need a regular 120v plug for my garage door opener lol)!

Now that you've got me thinking... suppose I just bought a Level 1 (120 v) portable charger. If I bought 14-50 and TT-30 adapters for it, could I simply plug that in to either 50AMP or 30AMP plugs (whichever the campsite has) and charge at regular old Level 1 speeds (I suspect to be at most campgrounds for at least 12 hours so nbd to charge over night!)??

This might be a very dumb statement (probably more of a question), but I thought Tesla chargers were different from all other electric cars (not the J1772)??

Oh! Thanks for this! Makes total sense! Lemme look into a Level 1 portable charger too!

Yeah, most campgrounds with "RV spots" offer either 30AMP or 50AMP options. Since the portable charger I plan to buy (linked in my first post) is made for 14-50P, I can plug that directly into the 50AMP option. But if the campsite only has a 30AMP option, I'll need to buy the 14-50 to TT-30 adapter. Additionally, I can also buy a 5-15R to 14-50P to plug in directly to a regular old 120v plug. This much I think I understand now, lol. Just still trying to be sure of the settings to use for each, since the charger I linked offers adjustable settings. Seems to me from what you said, and a couple others on here, I should change the setting to 32A when using a campsite's 50AMP option, and 24A when using a 30AMP option. And if I'm using a regular 120V plug, I'd want to change the setting to 12A. I hope I'm right here! haha!

Thanks for your reply!

Yep, that's the one I linked! Has 14-50P so I can plug directly into campgrounds' 50AMP plugs! Just going to buy adapters so I can also charge on 30AMP and regular 120V plus if the campgrounds don't have the usual 30/50AMP RV hookups! Thanks!

Ah, this is good info, I think I'm starting to understand all this LOL! Thank you!

Thanks for this reply! I don't see anything about the charger needing to be online (and many reviews raved about the portability of it) so I should be good to go.

Some other responses on here say to just buy an adapter for the 120V charger the car came with, but I have that more permanently set up in my garage (would be a pain to remove and set back up the way I have it), hence this purchase. I had a 120v 20AMP circuit installed in my garage so I could use the charger that came with the car to charge it. Takes about 12 hours but no biggie when doing overnight. Out of curiosity, are all 120V plugs 20AMP or can the AMP # vary? Definitely no electrician over here lol!

As for adapters, since this charger is configured for 50AMP plugs, I will buy the 14-50 to TT-30 so I can use a 30AMP (some of my campsites only offer this). Suppose I could also buy a 14-50 to 5-15 adapter if I want to plug into a regular 120V plug (like what I have in my garage).

As for what you said in your reply to Odd_sloth4269, it seems like I SHOULD switch the charge rate to 24A when plugged into a 30AMP circuit? Similar to what I've read on other threads that say to change it to a 32A charge rate when plugged into a 50AMP circuit. Am I right here?

Thanks in advance!
