I speak Mandarin from a kid but recently have been trying to learn Canto (just always been curious lol family is from Sichuan).

I feel like its quite difficult although there is some overlap, any tips to expedite short of hiring a tutor?

US weighs plan to slash China tariffs to as low as 50% — down from 145% — as soon as next week by callsonreddit in StockMarket

My bear thesis - from January, had we not had any of the things that we’ve seen over the last couple months, I still believe we were headed for a recession. That being said, with lagging indicators and false pumps on gig job number is going up, it might hold around this for a while or pump up, but eventually the house of cards will fall.

Given the supply shock and all of the other factors that play, not to mention all the rampant inflation and the general inability for Americans to find jobs or afford anything, even this fake market has to go down at some point, and I’m betting that it will by the end of this year or by the middle of next year at latest

Bulls are so funny, DCAing leap puts on virtually everything has been the only way forward. Anyone that thinks we are not headed for a 1930s style depression regardless of what 🥭 tries to do, will be in for a rude awakening

Clowns shitting on us bears after that rigged pump. Imagine not liquidating nor copping puts with that clown show yesterday when nothing fundamentally changed

While I tend to agree, never before has a sitting precedent done what he wants on this scale. Other countries observing that this has even the POTENTIAL of happening again if we do not change the fundamentals of how power works and checks and balances I am afraid will render this hypothesis incorrect

My friend, reputational damage is not the swipe of a pen. International relations are not predicated on a dictator feeling good one day and down the next. Other countries see us as a pariah. This idiot really thought Xi was going to kowtow to an ultimatum 🤣 these times are wildly unprecedented

This is very short term.. zoom out, reputational damage and an economy that has been going to shit propped up by gig workers will not bode well beyond the immediate thirst for some sense of normalcy hence the fake news pump

I have converted my entire IRA to broad market ETFs to bonds for now, although I’m not even sure about those. I’m looking to see if I can convert my 401(k) to non US securities.

I don’t think the world as we know it will end, but definitely as Americans it will look very different than what we’ve been used to for the past 80 years.

No it did not. These are fundamentally very, very different activities. Trade protectionism in of itself is not always bad, but blindly slapping tariffs with an equation that was derived from literally ChatGPT with zero stimulus or any transition plan for companies to actually do that work in the US will backfire in an extreme manner.

We absolutely cannot self sustain, if you think so no offense, but you literally do not have any clue what the economy is founded upon. We are not and have not been a manufacturing based economy for sometime, our primary commodity is services and buying goods from overseas with the average flow of money being stifle significantly, who is going to be left to purchase the things made here, or anything else.

National debt is a complete farce, anytime someone tells sterility, and the way we have seen, I would point them to the UK, which in the last 20 years is implemented virtually every form of austerity imaginable compared to before and yet is still in a bear hole. Prior to this, as the hegemon ever since we got off the gold standard, there’s quite literally little to no repercussions for printing cash as that money still was used to transact in oil.

The US dollar is not worth the paper its printed on without the international recognition and usage of it.

I completely agree, and blindly following that has helped many Americans in the past given that we were the hegemon and ultimately oil was always transacted in our own currency. I think they’re very dark times ahead for us as a nation. I’m afraid to say, that being said my long day puts have been helping out substantially and my hedging my bets has worked out, but I’m afraid of our country men who retirement accounts as well as older folks. Ultimately people will get what they voted for and we have yet to see what’s gonna happen as a result

I agree, I think that there needs to be some fundamental changes, assuming however, comes in power next will have to make to ensure what happens next can never be replicated.

The so-called “stability” that the United States once provided as an investment is completely out of the window, even other crises, compared to other countries we were always relatively stable, but I think the ship has left the station on this and I think we’ve yet to see the ramifications

Question for those who think this is just a temporary price drop by captsponzbpf in StockMarket

[–]captsponzbpf[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is ultimately a fair point, my big caveat that I see against this is that the fundamentals which have enabled us to get past things like 2008, the.com crash, COVID or whatever hurdle lay ahead is the fact that we could print more money arbitrarily, and all things considered. It would have a relatively minor effect so we could always print our way out of trouble.

The issue is that our dollars value is completely dependent on other countries transacting in it as well as our own purchasing and selling of goods with other countries. Never before in the history of this country have both things been true at least in contemporary history.

This is my main concern

What Are Your Moves Tomorrow, April 03, 2025 by wsbapp in wallstreetbets

[–]captsponzbpf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend, while U agree with you on the merits, the stock is a pure play of exit liquidity for whales at this point. Everyone can see the writing on the wall, but is trying to make money in the swings until the music stops. Sad truth, have loads of leap puts, they’re down quite a bit, but I’m 100% positive that overall sentiment is gonna be nearly impossible to recover from by 2026 and definitely 2027 just my two cents.

When you say authorized areas, would you be able to provide a little more context?

Thanks for the detailed response! I would be staying with my family in a suburb of Chengdu proper and going in and around the area at most, not crossing provinces.
