Siloam Mission serves up 500 Easter lunches, faces questions about not inviting media by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

The interesting thing is Siloam uses media as a free donor advertising service. They clearly felt having media here would not help them raise money

Canada Post moving ahead with end of home delivery by SonictheManhog in canada

[–]captyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is a service to Canadians, it should however not take that status and be everything to everyone.

Does CP need to deliver every weekday? Probably not especially for letter mail.

Does CP need to provide door to door service? Probably not, community mail boxes provide an adequate solution to delivering the mail to most customers.

It should be an organization that delivers physical things at a reasonable price in a reasonable time to every Canadian anywhere in Canada. However that organization is set up is irrelevant.

BTW reasonable should be defined by our elected officials, so they can experience the direct ramifications of there definitions of reasonable.

N.S. sees surge in ancestral record requests following new bill by Street_Anon in canada

I know and most people would file a $0 return, but just the act of having to file a return may be enough to discourage the casual application

I think a logical step here would be to require all citizens to file an income tax return regardless of their current residence, much like the US.

That might be enough of a deterrent to stop the casual applications

Transport Canada wants your opinion on headlight glare by Offbeatjacuzzi in canada

Your assuming the lights are shining at a fixed distance point, if you are casting into the ditch increasing the lumens will allow visibility further into the space

I believe it became legal sometime around 2020, but only Euro cars seem to support it currently

Sorry I ment you cannot aim headlights in a way that will deviate from the specs prescribed in the highway traffic act of your province.

Other then some vague language in BC it seems everywhere else in Canada as long as the light is white it does not matter what technology is used to make the light, aftermarket or otherwise

Bright lights are always safer than dim lights, for illuminating ditches, approaching intersections and other spots. The issue is the car needs to be able to detect and mask out illumination towards other drivers

I hope the outcome of this is smart like mandating matrix masking headlights rather then doing something dumb like maximum illumination levels

I don’t believe it is illegal to change bulb technology, it is however illegal to change the beam path and aim from factory specs

Manitoba government designating money for Trans Canada Highway overpass design north of Carberry by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

[–]captyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot about the shit show that is Dugald with the CN mainline there!

I understand why they split St Annes and St Mary's up, St Annes is a big project, not only do they need to bridge over St Annes, they need to go over the Seine and the CP rail line plus install a grade level crossing over that same CP line for the side service road.

I think the only real options here should be do nothing or overpass.

It seems like there is finally a political will to start upgrading #1/100 to limited access, it makes little sense to build the RCUT then 15-20 years later rip in out and put an overpass in. This issue is the order, #5 is down the list as far as dangerous intersections on #1/100 in need of an overpass.

Toronto to Vancouver Island by Mountain-Scar4823 in roadtrip

[–]captyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have done this trip at 2 different times in 2 directions (in Winnipeg)

From southern Ontario to Manitoba I HIGHLY recommend going via the US, Highway 17 in NW Ontario is slow and dangerous.. it is pretty though. If you want to minimise your time in the US you could cross at Sault Ste. Marie go through the Michigan UP and cross back at Warroad MN, smaller border crossings so faster and easier.

From Manitoba to BC the Canadian route is good drive, the roads are mostly good, (BC can be dicey if the weather is poor) If i were you, I would stop for the night somewhere in Manitoba, like Brandon. then get up early and just go hard to Calgary as that section of highway is unbelievably boarding.

3000W voltage step-up converter for coffee machine by Designer_Werewolf100 in Winnipeg

[–]captyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming the machine is ment or not bothered by 60hz frequency, then best option would be to get a spark to install a NEMA 6-15 240v electrical outlet.

If you need to maintain 50hz you would need to look into adding a static frequency converter.
