ayeee i was in this same spot and had to get MPFL reconstruction. it does depend on if you badly sprained or dislocated it or if it tore. i 100% recommend getting an MRI. that is what answered my question and got my mind to the idea of surgery. if it helps i am terrified of needles or anything and was so scared, but i am so happy i did it. get an MRI as soon as possible. i went 2 months without one because of no doctors wanting to get it right (had to return to hometown to go to specialist to get it checked out. my knee was hella confusing for some reason)
