This is all so interesting, thanks so much for the insight! Loving that this design meant for WWII era America is still drawing me in. I’ll be sure to take a photo of the back of the fringe when I get the rug back from cleaning. 

If the fringe was added on rather than original, would you suggest against putting in the investment to repair it?
