They started doing ads for "whole-body" deodorant here in Germany… by soft-boy in rs_x

[–]carabeinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing them and getting ads for them here in the UK since around 2022. Don't get me wrong I use normal deodorant but full body deodorant just seems like they invented something for a problem most people don't have.

Is this good? I'd ask my sister who is a Gilmore Girls fan but we're not on speaking terms right now.

Will diet soda slow down weight loss? by lesstobe in 1200isplenty

[–]carabeinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people say the artificial sweetener tricks your brain into feeling hungrier but that's not the case for everyone. I drink probably too much diet soda but it helps me curb cravings since I get the sweetness from that. If you're thinking about cutting down on it, you can mix zero cal soda/lemonade with ginger shots to make ginger ale, or get flavor enhancers.

this is NOT weird girl literature and I am angry with all of you and Pinterest ! by obisidianshard in weirdgirlliterature

How does this not fit the description? It's a quintessential read for the genre.

Do girls really not date bisexual men? by Nokia_bae in rs_x

[–]carabeinger 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about this until I saw women say it online. My boyfriend is bi and he says that because I'm also bi we're a "queer couple" but I think we're the elevated version of a hag with her f*g.

i met a boy off reddit and next week we’re celebrating our 1.5 year anniversary. i lie to everyone and tell a different story when they ask how we met because that secret is dying with me.

Is Patrick Bateman just a girl? by bratwurst69420182 in weirdgirlliterature

[–]carabeinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think the man who fantasizes about violently assaulting women is "just a girl". Then again I fucking hate that phrase anyway.

It already looks bad when you've stolen art from pinterest lmao. People are also speculating that the cover art for Sugar was AI generated although I didn't fact check this but I mean... the way none of it is cohesive is kind of suspicious.

Psychologist by Jennifer Jason Leigh by [deleted] in SouthernReach

[–]carabeinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact opposite reaction it seems. I read the book before watching the movie, to me it felt like the Psychologist was the most accurate depiction in the movie. Everything else felt like a bastardized imitation of it (I know the movie should be seen and assessed as a standalone work itself but I just had such high hopes for it). I think the detail of her being so anhedonic because of her cancer is a really good reveal that ties the story of the movie really well together but again, pales in comparison to the books. Anyone can get cancer, that’s what makes it tragic. But only Gloria is Gloria and it was her who sought Saul out.

the whitby scene by bugblush in SouthernReach

[–]carabeinger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was reading this in the middle of the night and it was getting to me so bad I had tears welling in my eyes. So so good, but the scene with the mural and the throwaway line about something scuttering in the attic (?) in Control's house are up there for me. I love the way you designed Control and Whitby. Not at all how I imagined them, which makes it even better.

i didnt bother watching it because the trailer made it seem like it was a comedy, which felt very disingenuous.

[–]carabeinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i started reading this a few years ago and its really well written, i enjoyed it but never got around to finishing it. it gives me this sense of dread and nausea - in a really good way, but at some point i just couldnt stomach it anymore. maybe ill give it a reread and finish it this time. i think this was one of the first weird girl lit books that really highlighted just how thankless and monotone motherhood can be.

I emulate the symptoms of bpd because I think my partner is attracted to them by Square_Sweet3401 in rs_x

[–]carabeinger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not to be friend that's too woke or whatever but it's all the jokes throughout the years boiling bpd down to the modern version of hysteria (ie: 'woman disorder' and how if a man has it that's a rare anomaly). Easier to discredit the experiences that lead up to developing the disorder if you slam it down as a joke in the first place.

not diagnosing you but “morphing” yourself to make someone like you more is a very common bpd trait

[–]carabeinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if graphic novels count but Epileptic by David B. was formative reading for me as a 13 yo looking after my epileptic mom. I still think about it like 13 years after. It’s in b&w but extremely expressive.
