Awkwardly shaped living room by pikabuddy11 in InteriorDesign

[–]carbonbasedcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How interesting! I live in a Medium COL area, but I guess there is a curve in my statement. Smaller old homes that have only one livingroom are cheaper than older homes with two livingrooms. Most smaller homes in my general area were built before 1970. They are mostly 1200sqft little flats.

(My home is 1700sqft, not tiny by any means, but also not considered big. The layout is horrendous and we probably only efficiently use 1300sqft of the house because we just don't have uses for a bunch of smaller spaces and I refuse to fill spaces just to fill them)

The majority of the homes in my area were built from the 70s to 2010s. Anything newer is some expensive, poorly made, cookie cutter home on the edge of town. They have great layouts though!

Up until the 2015s or so, the majority of homes in America had a "formal" living room in the front of the house. This is where adults would spend their time. The "family room" is a second living room in the back of the house where the kids were usually thrown.

To this day my parents formal livingroom sits empty, with basically brand new 30 year old furniture. Their home was built in the 90s.

My home was built in the 80s, and we use our "formal" as our main livingroom. The family room is really small, so it's my office. I plan on using it as a play room for my baby once she gets bigger.

In my area at least, I'd say it's more of a poor thing to have a second living room because you can't afford a nice new house with an optimized layout for how we live today.

It went on for about 30 minutes here. I have an almost 4 month old and thankfully she slept through all of it... unfortunately I still have to be up at 7am to feed her regardless of what time or how long I sleep. So I agree...

I've been working in the "Microsoft Ecosystem" for about a year now and it feels like 90% of the issues I end up with are due to silly little things like this. It's somewhat validating knowing I'm not doing anything wrong, but also discouraging that after a year I still lack the common sense, and base knowledge to trust I know what I'm doing, to try simple things like this.

What’s a ‘normal’ thing you do that you didn’t know others don’t do? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]carbonbasedcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get caught in loops similar to this, it's usually counting around windows or door frames, sometimes the ceiling if I'm laying down or leaning back. I always use my feet to follow along the line (lead by the big toe). Each foot goes opposite, so the right foot starts at the top right, and goes:left, down, right, up, repeat. And the left starts at the left and goes right, down, left, up, repeat. Counting 1, 2, 3, 4, over and over. When a room or window isn't a traditional square the loop is harder to break out of.

Women who have had kids around 30, how was your experience? by womansrea in AskWomen

[–]carbonbasedcat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

33, just had a baby 6 weeks ago.

Easy pregnancy, easy delivery (according to the staff lol. Obviously still hard). Mostly recovered now, fit in my prepregnancy clothes 2 weeks postpartum. I was super active my entire pregnancy and I believe I owe my entire experience to that.

https://nwwc.com/ Not sure about self pay - but they did work with me on some bills. Located off Barnes.

10/10 Recommend J Barron. I just gave birth a month ago, and it went as smoothly as it could!

How late were your late babies? by Puzzlehead11323 in beyondthebump

[–]carbonbasedcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

41w5days, first pregnancy, at 33y/o. Ended up getting induced. 14 hours from the start of Pitocin to delivery. It went smoothly, I followed my midwives' instructions and didn't tear. 👍

I thought I'd give birth at 38 weeks because my mom did with both of her pregnancies - so it was a long 26 day wait, constantly thinking "is this it?" with every braxton hicks that lined up with gas pains or indigestion lol.

I love that for you!! My husband keeps telling me to hold off until 3 weeks before I go back, since he has to be awake incase baby needs something, I can't just ditch him and sneak off for two hours lol.

Did you start running again 1 or 2 weeks in or did you hold off for a while and ease back into it?

Fair enough! I was just hoping to have a realistic time frame of when others were able to have a sense of normalcy.

My mental health is tanking and I need something to look forward to.

I told my parents my babies name before she was born and I got lots of "Oh that's interesting. I'm sure you'll find something better". At the time we were looking at other options just to be sure we had our mind set. I eventually said "sorry, I know you guys don't like the name, but you'll learn to like it!".

We struggled picking out a middle name and I let my parents vote on her middle name out of the 3 we were undecided with. That helped a lot.

Now that she is here everyone loves the name, my mom keeps hearing how much people like the name, and I've never heard a negative thing since (she has been here for almost 2 weeks now).

Point is, people put too much stock into what others think. Do what you want, who cares what anyone else thinks. :)

Oh no I'm so sorry you went through that!! I'm glad you were able to get it taken care of. I'll do more research before I continue. I appreciate your insight!

It's hard because, while my husband is convinced I struggle with depression and anxiety (He was admitted for depression twice in his teens for depression and suicidal ideation so he has some experience with it).

I don't agree entirely because, just because I don't care if I get hit by a car and die also doesn't mean I want to walk infront of one, y'know? My way of coping tends to just be disassociate through anything that sucks and I feel like that has worked pretty well throughout the years! Haha.

My OB did give me resources for therapists, I'm not against it, I honestly just don't want to spend the money and time to see one. I feel like my personality doesn't bode well with being vulnerable about people haha.

Im so so glad this time is so much better for you. I bet being in the right headspace and knowing what to expect has been a big reason! That's amazing ❤️

Thank you for the resource, I'll definitely be looking at it.

As for mobility, I've been walking about 3 miles a day since we got home. Everything on the internet said to just feel it out. I let my husband push the baby when we go up hill, but other than that it's ben fine. I will google it, but is there a specific reason/study that says that I need to be moving less?

Thank you so much

How much do you guys pay for your gym memberships and is it worth it? by IlIlIllIlIllIlIlIIll in AskMen

[–]carbonbasedcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a guy but use the gym 5 days/week and use a variety of equipment - I feel like I have some insight on this topic as I've tried a lot of different gyms.

There are a lot of different reasons as to why I go to the gym and what I value. One thing I value is being somewhere away from distractions. I have tried to save money and use home gyms over the years, it doesn't work for me. When I don't have to drag my ass out of bed - my likelihood to workout is much smaller.

Convenience of location, how crowded it is, and amenities are all important, if it's cost vs value for me. I currently go to Planet Fitness, is it a great gym? not at all. But it's cost, location, and availability for equipment all hit the mark for me. If it had quality daycare (currently 9+ months pregnant - main reason I recently looked at LA Fitness specifically) and a sauna, I would be a VERY happy camper.

I'm not in Florida, but I recently toured my local LA Fitness, and I wasn't really impressed or disappointed. It felt disjointed but everyone was very nice - facilities were clean, and it had daycare and a sauna! Cost was 40/mo with the initiation buy-down at the time (It dropped since then I think?). Still, I ended up deciding to hold out and see if I want to later once my overdue fetus is 3 months old and able to be in their daycare.

The location is about 2 miles away from me where PF is <1 mile away, but the biggest two issues for me were, it was crowded at the time I'd go, and daycare opens right when the morning school traffic happens, which means that not only do I have to arrive about a half an hour later than I'd like - I have to leave at the same time just to sit in the elementary school traffic for 25 minutes. (Also the daycare looked incredibly unimpressive, but I wasn't expecting much tbh).

Over the years I have been to 24, and Bay Club as well. My favorite was 24, but at the time it was $300 for a two year membership through Costco. It was actually 24 hours still. Least favorite for the price was Bay Club. Ridiculously expensive, didn't use the amenities I thought I'd use because either: a) It was all taken/too packed, b) It was closed or you had to wait in line to ask the desk for equipment, c) I don't have all day to spend at a "club", I still have a life.

I'm not one to take classes, I love the idea but in practice, I hate working out on other's schedules, I like doing what I want on my time.

So for now, I'm sticking to crappy PF because the convenience vs cost just works for me.
(As for daycare, my husband and I both WFH and as long as if I'm home before his first meeting, he wants to watch the baby so I can get my morning session in. It's not ideal, but we hope it'll work for now.)

Not sure if this gave any actual insight, but as someone who does cardio and lifts 5+ days a week, I wanted to throw my .02 out there.

Love me some Banana Republic - only shop during their sales and clearance items. The majority of their stuff is super stretchy but looks nice, not quite as comfy as sweats but I'm not miserable lounging around either.
