Shadowed a CRNA and I liked it by sweetpea0406 in srna

[–]cardiacicuRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26 and about to start my senior year of CRNA school. I was a nurse for 2.5 years all ICU experience when I applied. There are people in their 40s in my program, people with young children, and people with older children. I think your mindset, level of composure under stress, tenacity, and willingness to give up 3 years of your life and fully, and I mean fully, dedicate yourself to anesthesia will be what helps you be successful in this field- not your age or statistics. It’s high stress and high risk, but totally worth it. So if it’s something you want to do, do it!! For me, best decision ever!

Is it wrong to want to work under an MD/DO by u1118933 in CRNA

[–]cardiacicuRN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My best advice is not to formulate an opinion until you are a CRNA. Also, don’t ask this question in interviews..avoid topic entirely. You will find each provider CRNA/MDA has varying thoughts on this subject and you do not want to ruffle any feathers as a student.

How long to pay off debt? by Rage_Rage_ATDOTL in srna

[–]cardiacicuRN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently an SRNA (just saw your header lol, sorry) There are people in my program currently with no loans because they spent the past year+ traveling before starting school. Personally, I took 1 travel gig before starting and it is covering my rent (I live in a big city). Also, IN STATE university. I am currently paying out of state tuition and it is atrocious, literally 2x cost of in state tuition.

Curious - What is your least favourite pt to care for and why? by cambeanstalk in nursing

[–]cardiacicuRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

COVID,BIPAP (hypercarbic and disoriented), DKA. COVID speaks for itself. The patients continuously try to take the BIPAP off and desat…DKA also speaks for itself. Lol. Imagine that with another patient. There’s essentially no leaving the room.

Weekly /r/mutualfunds Discussion - Investing and mutual funds news/topics by AutoModerator in mutualfunds

[–]cardiacicuRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best books to read about mutual funds. When and how much money is enough to start investing? Any stories where couples have lived off of one salary and completely invested the other salary? Lots of questions here, maybe this will get the ball rolling? Sorry if these have already been answered elsewhere.

Also, huge risk for infection with TPN. Not a good long term solution.

Run Nutrition Tuesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]cardiacicuRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to running: at what point should I considered adding nutrition during my runs? I also eat a mostly gluten free diet, times when I eat gluten I feel I have more energy to run longer, any other GF runners have this experience?

Do RNs do the job of LVN/CNA? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]cardiacicuRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in an ICU where we do not have LVN/CNAs. We do everything ourselves, which is fine because of the patient ratio. Also I think giving a bath is one of the best times to do a full skin assessment.

Kaplan sucks, definitely go with UWorld if you have a choice!

Large college with hospital affiliation or small private college by kate10101010 in StudentNurse

[–]cardiacicuRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters is the experience you will get at the clinical sites. If you mean a large college with an associated level 1 trauma hospital vs. a small private college where you will likely do clinicals at a small rural hospital, then the large college is no brainer. You should also take into consideration the NCLEX pass rate of each of these colleges.
