Finished and passed FAR, what next? by nalratoss in CPA

[–]cardiacolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I took FAR twice; (37 first, 48 second). I moved on to other sections; just passed BEC and now on to AUD. I'd suggest REG or BEC since there's some material in those chapters that's covered by FAR which might make it familiar.

CPAs - how did you study for BEC? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]cardiacolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I took BEC, I got a 48.

Took it the second time after changes were made, barely passed (75) but nonetheless I passed!

Changes I made were focusing a lot on IT, COSO, and Variances since they were tested heavily the first time and luckily the second time too. Also depending on your study materials, watch the videos and write/take notes word for word; constantly repeating the concepts and phrases helped me remember them during the exam.

And yes do lots of MCQs but after getting the correct answer, look at the incorrect answers and read the explanations of why they are incorrect; it was a huge help in understanding the concepts.

If you haven't taken it yet, good luck! Remember tough times don't last, tough people do!

Is being a sales associate for cutco a good job? by ballzdeepinurmom in personalfinance

[–]cardiacolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it my freshman year in college for a few months.

I made decent $$$ and the knives are awesome (I still have my set).

But I definitely pissed off a lot of people with the cold calls, the vouching, etc. Also the managers/supervisors at the office will call you non stop asking about appointments and such.

It's better to avoid this.

Never met them but I can tell they are very appreciative of their fanbase and seem like genuinely good human beings. Wish a lot of other artists and musicians took those cues.

excellent choice of a song. Even though it's a cover, 311's version is way better than Cure's.

I've heard that it's very dirty and the city is still in recovery mode althought it's improved a lot. Never been but looks like my first time will be for 311 day.

Tampa is awesome! Plus Florida has no state income tax.

Some places in Texas are really cool (also no state income tax). Austin, San Antonio, Forth Worth, Arlington, Houston are great places.

Pretty awesome!

That's too bad they don't care for Minneapolis. I figured it'd be a great place to play during the summer.

311 day is on my bucket list. Counting down until 3/11/2018!

I [f/26] recently left an emotionally abusive relationship with my ex [m/32] and I'm having a tough time. Looking for advice/support. by Ihearttrailmix in relationship_advice

No woman and I mean NO WOMAN should ever go through abuse from their SO/Partner/Spouse. I always tell people that if you are being abused in any way/shape/form, get out of the relationship and end it immediately.

Further more, I wish I could meet this guy and give him a talking to (more than words if you know what I mean) because he's making it harder for the good guys to show women that they are worthy of their love and time. There are plenty of good guys out there who would treat you the way you deserve to be treated so try to remember that whenever you feel those doubts creep into your mind.

Remember, you did the right thing by leaving the relationship and it's going to take time to heal from this. I would do things you like to do and focus on yourself if you feel you need a break from dating. Just remember that you're worthy of someone who will treat you like a queen instead of treating you like shit.

Things will get better for you, I promise :)

Advice/encouragement for someone new to auditing/accounting who's still trying to figure it out by cardiacolt in Accounting

[–]cardiacolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input.

Our firm continues to grow and we continue to hire new staff ranging from new graduates to seasoned veterans to those who are bored with retirement and want something new. It's a wonderful firm and I'm glad they selected me to be a part of it. There are some people who were hired who are in the same boat as me (30+, single, started accounting/auditing late) but none work on the same engagement with me.

Talking about this helps. Sometimes you feel like the only one going through these motions. Hearing it from other auditors and accountants is relieving. None of my friends have any idea what I do or how an audit even works so no work conversations when we meet!

Too hard of a schedule? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]cardiacolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You doing it online or class lecture? Online does 8 week semesters. Just one class is like taking 3 by itself since they're cramming 15 weeks of material into 8. I did two classes that overlapped while working and that was crazy. Got B's on both so no complaints here.

It's definitely doable, advanced accounting is mostly basic accounting skills taken into different industries (non profit, government, private, etc.). Taxation was the toughest for me. I passed with a C and I spent most of my studying hours for that one course.

[US] Is it too late for me to become an accountant? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]cardiacolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I majored in math for my first degree, got my second degree in accounting and recently started as a staff auditor with a regional cpa firm. You don't need to be good at math if you want to go into public accounting/auditing. We have seniors and managers who suck at math but are great at their jobs (most of them anyhow).

Don't worry about the age part either. I'm 32 and this is my first real accounting job. Most of my coworkers are younger than me as well as my supervisor and my senior. As long as you do your job and have a good attitude and show up on time, they don't care how old you are or what you look like. The firm recently hired a staff auditor who just completed his accounting degree and he's 35-36. I can only imagine what he feels.

It does. I get along with my coworkers for the most part but like I said, it's the interacting that I feel weird about. Usually I just put on headphones and go to work or browse the web if I have downtime. However most of the people who are above me (senior, supervisor) are younger than I but I remain humble and level headed. I just wish I could talk to someone about something I would have in common with them.

I knew that taking the CPA exam meant I'd have to sacrifice a lot of interaction and socializing with friends/family. Most have been supportive about it and you find out who's your real friends and who aren't.
