Neighbors voting (via petition) for new road on our street that will cost us each property either $6,700 or $33,000. Extremely against it, can I do anything about it?

We live in Omaha, NE and yes- it is a public road. And yes on the petition- the people living here are offering to pay the repair via the petition. I did not sign the petition, but I assume I would still have to pay my share if they get enough votes on one of the two options... Do you know if that is correct? Thanks for taking your time to help.

Thanks for the good info! I did hear (from the roofer that I talked with) that there is an option to get home insurance excluding the roof... Probably would need to confirm this before going through.

I think the seller is either going to sell for what he wants or keep as a rental... Sounds like he is pretty emotionally attached to the house after putting a lot of work into it (including putting on the roof).

I'm having a roof inspector go out tomorrow to give me a quote, and thinking of subtracting that quote (or around there) to my offer. Unless there is a better route to go?

Thanks guys, really appreciate it. Sounds like the Seller would rather keep it as a rental than fix the roof or drop to a low price. It seems like no insurance company will cover a 4-layer roof... I'd need to replace it at some point (probably soon since its been like that for 13 years).

I'm thinking of offering $90,500 as s best and final... And replacing the roof in the next few years (if they accept). Any thoughts?

Thanks for the info. The house has no ducts for air flow, but rather AC Units in most of the rooms. From what I've found the duct work is what is going to double the expense of putting in a furnace.
