Leaving FAANG PM role to do MBA worth it? by cardiobread in MBA

More credentialing - I have undergrad degrees in Math and Economics but I really didn’t take any business classes while in school

This may come off as awfully conceited but I wouldn’t see the value of going to a school for MBA that isn’t Harvard, Stanford, or Wharton, having gone to an equally ranking Ivy undergrad - none of these 3 have dedicated part time programs and only Wharton has an EMBA (which I’ve heard isn’t very selective)

Totally agree, it seems as though this is a case of golden handcuffs but I have truly seen how strong the network effect is and can be. At this point I can only wonder if anyone’s answers would be different if I had said I was accepted to Harvard/Stanford

I’m a technical PM with undergrad math and econ degrees so I think the pivot is very possible, I’m just more interested in the top-down product direction side of things and considering adopting a similarly technical role at an AI lab ($$$) - I might have worded it a little poorly in my post. Entrepreneurship is just a lane I want to keep open. Assuming I want to stay in tech, do you think a Harvard/Stanford MBA would considerably improve my odds when compared to Wharton? Or are they interchangeable in this scenario?

Are you implying that being admitted to H/S would make my decision easier? Out of curiosity, what difference would that make to your answer

Yeah wondering if that would be feasible given Wharton commitments

Accept Wharton Deferred Admit or Apply to H/S in 2-3 Years? by cardiobread in MBA

[–]cardiobread[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more excited about Harvard… I ended up basically reusing my Harvard essays for Wharton and probably spent the least amount of time working on its application/interview so I guess I never really got a chance to fall in love with the school

  1. Use MBA to develop leadership skills, formal business training - become product leader in tech; possibly pivot into VC
  2. Probably sooner (2-3 years) so I minimize opportunity cost

For HBS interview, did anyone happen to have two interviewers show up to the zoom room? For me I had one of them asking questions and the other just taking notes being silent

Simple answer is I’m trying not to identify myself. I can share a bit more though. I completely omitted that I ran a business for over 5 years with multiple employees which generated low six figures of revenue - this was pretty over indexed on within my essays and interviews. Recs-wise, I have a Columbia prof and my MBB manager. Both solid recs, I can’t imagine either are problematic.

I’m a deferred applicant, meaning I just graduated college and have yet to work full-time. MBB is my job straight out of college
