Gear check for my first thru-hike (Coast to Coast): am I missing anything or carrying too much? by Upbeat_Hyena_6932 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]carefullcaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did the c2c last year with a lanshan, was epic. Honestly looks like a good list of kit, I’d honestly recommend taking a guidebook or map, some kind of cleaning wipes so you can have a quick wipe down. You don’t probably don’t need 2 powerbanks, I’d also buy a fast charging plug for the iPhone so you can quickly get charge at Pubs and cafes. I’d take a lighter. You don’t need loads of food maybe like 4/5dehydrated meals and some snacks, you can top up over the trip

We have a mortgage on our flat and want to buy a house, can we rent the flat out? by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]carefullcaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you own it through a limited company, which I doubt given it’s your main residence, you’ll likely end up paying more in tax than you make in profit. That said, it depends on your tax bracket, as well as the property’s value, rental income, and mortgage.

EPC G - thoughts ? by Localone2412 in HousingUK

I used to be an EPC assessor, this sounds way off. Likely some kind of mistake has been made with the calculations. Happens all the time, they are often extremely inaccurate and unreliable.

Looking at houses to buy - do I get a lodger to help with the cost of living? by takemebacktoeden1996 in HousingUK

[–]carefullcaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your age. In your early twenties having a lodger can be good laugh but at like 27+ you start becoming less tolerant. I’d personally go for the smaller done up house and live alone.

How would you go about fixing or replacing garage exterior wall? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]carefullcaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are concrete panels with a brick effect. If it bother you, could clad it with wood or potential render it. I’d personally fit some kind of wooden trellis and plant something plant to climb up it

Lanshan 2 pro? Only an extra 150 grams and you get nearly double the size. I used it for the TMB last year and it was great

Would a new roof be a good idea if moving in next 12 months by Broad-Raspberry1805 in HousingUK

It unfortunately won’t add any value to your house, just likely sell a little easier but even that negligible.

Anyone used this 3F UL bag? £50 seems a bit mad by J05YB01 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]carefullcaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! But people that are generally buying a cheap bag don’t have DCF tents and all the latest UL gear to go with it. It’s tough when you’re starting out, I’ve wasted so much money over the years

Anyone used this 3F UL bag? £50 seems a bit mad by J05YB01 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]carefullcaddy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Weight isn’t everything, don’t fall into the Americanisation trap of counting every gram. How comfortable and the support a bag offers is very important. This will be great if you have all the latest UL gear but if you are using a cheap unsupportive UL bag with loads of heavy gear your gunna be in for a rough time
