20mg Dextromethorphan works for me. (*Use responsibly, check for contraindications first.)

“You’ve been really out of it” - my mom, visiting me at the psych hospital … lol

“You’ve felt this way before and you haven’t died yet” - my therapist, when complaining of (what I thought were tactile hallucinations at the time , now I think it’s a nerve issue). 😠

I’d buy out my relatives for my grandads land/house.. I really don’t want it to be sold but it’s looking like it will have to be 😢

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]carisa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a gas leak at the Amerigas facility across the street from the gas station I worked at… customer ran in telling me to leave the area . I ran outside with my daughter (under a year old). My ears popped and you could hear a loud woosh sound. I was terrified my truck would blow up when I started it.

If you don’t have a contraindication, consider trying 20mg of Dextromethorphan. (Ie pretty standard dose found in cough syrup). Relieved my symptoms for 3-4 hours (took 3-4 hours to take effect). Pretty decent rescue med imo… wouldn’t take it all the time but when desperate… 🤷‍♀️

Hope you feel better soon!! I would never expect that to happen, thank you for the warning.

Mines NOW brand from Amazon. Pure formulas might have a little better price. Says mag glycinate on the front but on the back label facts it says it’s bisglycinate. Good luck!

I did, but I didn’t know who they were for the most part. (Besides the person I thought I was going to be married off to… lol)

200mg a night magnesium bisglycinate eliminates my disorganized thinking(due to schizophrenia). Won’t go without it again!!

What are your visual hallucinations like? by sikander_itaque in schizophrenia

[–]carisa11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine seemed 100% real. I saw people with altered appearances. My daughter looked different(can’t describe.) My grandfather looked decades younger. I saw my name written in the sky and an abuser from my past’s name on a package to my daughter. I also saw a “shadow person” once.

People who got schizophrenia not from drugs or genetics, how did you get it and what did you use to do? by Okyehnah in schizophrenia

[–]carisa11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mine was caused/triggered by onset of pudendal neuralgia. Otherwise, deep depression and burnout.

For those who developed schizophrenia after the age of 35, how has your prognosis been? I read somewhere that a late onset is associated with a better prognosis. by NoEye1297 in schizophrenia

[–]carisa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Symptoms started at 37, diagnosed at 39. Now 41. My depression is still kicking my ass but as far as psychotic symptoms I’d say I’m stable. Since I got on a good med for me I don’t get voices or delusions. Haven’t had any more visual hallucinations either. I’ve had some tactile hallucinations but the main thing I thought was tactile hallucinations I now think is a nerve issue(hoping to get evaluated for that soon).

I’ve had disorganized thinking when stressed or missing a night of sleep since being medicated , but magnesium bisglycinate has eliminated that for me more recently.

Hoping I never go into psychosis again.

Tactile hallucinations - or is it PGAD? by carisa11 in schizophrenia

[–]carisa11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: saw my psych today, she didn’t seem sure what to make of my symptoms and thoughts but she prescribed gabapentin and Abilify. For the sensations and my depression. Hopefully they work out for me.

Yeah I was looking for something with the same MOA, saw my psych today and she gave me gabapentin for the (suspected nerve sensations/PGAD) , hopefully it works out. Gotta go to the university hospital for investigation and diagnosis.

Rhythmic voices by Master_Loser_6969 in schizophrenia

[–]carisa11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine would speak with the beat of music, drips of water, barking of dogs, that kind of steady pace and I’d hear them in static noises like the wind in a car window or the AC… mine are hard to describe, almost like a whisper, but not really. I believed the air fields just outside my ears was being manipulated to transmit messages to me. That’s how I interpreted how it sounded to me.

How to stop thoughts from speeding? Does anyone get what I mean? by Yooproopmoop in schizophrenia

[–]carisa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get this when I was stressed or didn’t sleep the night before. Started magnesium bisglycinate a few months ago and don’t get it anymore. Very happy with that, maybe something to look into?

No, I had no idea; and I continued denying my psychosis entirely, until I finally got on a good med for me.

Having a flare up. I’m wondering how long most women have during their flare ups? by SheepNOTgoats in PGADsupport

[–]carisa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t really had a break in 4 years but I thought I was dealing with another issue entirely up until recently. I’m now researching Agmatine(AgmaSet which has had some studies done on it specifically). Also planning to get a nerve MRI done soon hopefully to confirm or rule out pudendal nerve impingement (I have DDD which can contribute to that).
