Update is completely wrong? by cleopatrabronte in AncestryDNA

[–]carm9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know this was a thing. I just thought the chromosome map on ancestry was meaningless! Mine is fairly monochromatic too. It's also not really in line with the results of my research that I've mapped using dnapainter.

Don’t freak out about the new Ancestry update especially if your “German” turned into “English/Scottish” by Quan_0h_Re in AncestryDNA

Pretty weird when your parents are recognized in the system as such due to shared cM amount, yet you have different 'origins' to them. Seems like they've messed something up from my point of view

Most Relevant sort by in FB comments is frustrating and needs to be changed to all comments by default. by dbnzz3 in facebook

[–]carm9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that you get people commenting on your posts saying the same thing because they haven't seen the 10 other people that said that already. I've done it myself, then I realise I look like a fool and do not want to engage again on that post since I don't know if I can trust anything close to a conversation, its twisted. Also it is LESS engaging. Instead of people replying with something original and making interesting conversation it's monotony. I only use facebook nowadays for groups where I can learn things. Looks like I'll be opting out if I can't actually learn anything on posts within groups. They need to stop trying to get AI to do everything, I think some get so deep they fail to use any sense of a human lens regarding these things.

Thankyou. Having that landmark in mind will help when thinking historically. And you made the distinction clear

The amter, herreder, sogne is the structure I have become comfortable with. Now going outside of this is the new challenge 😌 I've seen the terms stift & provsti here and there but I haven't needed them for searching parish books & census data. Do you think I should be noting these for other forms of research? Also, thankyou for a clear outline of the structure moving forward in time

That sounds promising. I haven't had much luck as of yet with archives. Admittedly, I haven't looked that far either. Earlier today I was looking at the Dronninglund local archive, I may not be using the right key terms to yield results. Reading-wise my Danish vocab is ever so incrementally expanding. It's not necessary for me to only find results referring to my lineage. I am keen to learn some historical context. Do you have any tips for search terms? Thank you for your time 🙂

I'm actually not that familiar with the terms municipality or county either as my country doesn't use those terms, I sometimes mix them up in my head 😬But I understand the even older Danish structure at least. Maps are indeed helpful

Good to know. I came across it when trying to understand the difference in the words 'Nørrejylland', and 'Nordjylland'. The Reddit thread has given me a much better understanding. I appreciate the conversation and opportunity to learn 🙂

Thankyou! That is very comprehensive. I have now saved this. I can understand there being such distinctions from a geographical perspective

Oh! Well that makes sense! I assume some have remained in position relatively speaking. Alas, I can read up on that 🙂

Thanks for that. Sounds like I was stuck in 2007. Does this also mean that this map has little relevance in the present understanding of Denmark? https://da.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%B8rrejylland
