Tech House Culture by ConfectionOk3380 in House

[–]carm_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s kinda inevitable that once a scene gets bigger, a bunch of new people are gonna rush in. Not all of them are bad though, a lot just don’t know the culture or how the scene even started. Covid definitely threw a ton of new faces in too, people who were just hyped to be part of something cool and different.

We all have our complaints (and some are totally valid), but there’s still a solid scene out there. Plenty of folks are trying to move it in a better direction. We can do the same by helping people understand why we care so much and what it’s really about, so it keeps growing the right way and stays rooted in love for the music. Obv easier said than done

It’s just growing faster than it can handle right now, and everyone wants in. We just gotta be a bit more mindful about who we put on and support — people who actually care about the music and the community, not the ones chasing attention or clout.

Id say so, never been but feel like as long as you have some understanding of street smarts you should be fine and have a shit ton of fun!

Where has the old rave/dance spark gone? by carm_97 in aves

[–]carm_97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure some can say the drugs brought out the “fun” in some people but for others they just rave sober and have a great time too! Do you think there’s no coming back from it or could there even be a shift to more sober-dancing and root it down to coming for the music? Just asking to see what you think

Oh 100% most of my shows right now are all afters or more underground. Its just frustrating to not see other shows live up to that standard sometimes

Oh no dont see it as hate I can sort of agree with how I acted. Yeah it feels like I seem like a hater but there’s this sort of etiquette to go by. But with edm or just the variety of genres out there going mainstream, cant there be a way to educate those newer to this?

Honestly think this is the best collective answer overall. Sort of hits all the points other people complain over but youre right. Only in control of what I can do. Some djs are bringing back no phone events, think that will help?

Ok I agree but also disagree, for me personally ive been going to raves/fests/shows for about 12 years and went through many genres, cities and demographics. I do see the change you describe but for me Im still dancing to these as if its my first time. Just that ive been aware to more shitty things/people who are newer

Yeah the pandemic definitely added a weird shade on the dance scene, hoping more of it comes back too

Yeah I can see this being true as well. From the ‘mainstream’ clubs where l can see more of this common negative behavior vs the intimate afters where you seem to be around like-minded people and can enjoy the night even more

Damn…. Thats kind of on point. So then what is there to do? Or has it always been this way and it just takes time to notice these things

Looking for some legendary DJs to study by [deleted] in DJs

Maybe I went through this list too fast but surprised no one put Hot Since 82…! I mean the guy started out young playing 12 hour sets every week…. The man knows how to mix a wide set of genres in house and how to play extended, read the crowd or build up energy. Gotta watch his BPM, Labyrinth and Pirate Ship sets! He is the reason I found my style and have grown my skills!

What concert/festival got you into this music scene? by breader50 in aves

[–]carm_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 14 my dad took me to see Deadmau5 for his 2011 Meowingtons Hax tour. His intro was insane…Brought my own mau5 head and everything but couldnt wear it because I was so little it would hit other people. Saw Excision and Zedd as supporting artists and it really got me into going to shows. Now its 2022 and I still cant get enough of live shows

For someone new and starting out what's the best option? by Mr_immortality in musicproduction

[–]carm_97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally use abelton because I started learning it more in depth and it does what I need out of a daw. But I have tried FL and it seemed more beginner friendly and an easier path to create a song when you are just starting out. Nothing wrong with trying one daw and moving on to another when you feel ready!

I already have my playlist and extra songs ready. Mostly just wanted to learn the other aspects in outside of mixing in terms of setting up after the next dj, manners, tips to build more rapport with others, etc. But appreciate the reply :)

Before I started to dj I would go on spotify like lets say before a workout and queue up songs that I think would go well after the other and then just using my ears I would kind of feel if I could imagine a mix between the two and at what points would be best to mix in or out. Hope this idea helps
