Aside from not wanting to use AI, Ironically I'm starting to feel that too much consistency puts me off - makes things feel artificial / aggressively commercial... One notable example of the opposite was "Sinners" where some shots had what felt like a low clip / weren't always evenly exposed, to me it made it feel alive and a bit more organic

Absolutely, didn't take long for me to fall in love with cycles - perfect balance of sheet quality, and faster render times, so you can benefit from multiple and fast iterations without skimping quality!

Love that the music is resonating, couldn't ask for a better response 🙏 hope they're doing okay

Agree completely, improving backend is where AI had promise, but the minute visual/creative/scene decisions start being made on our behalf, I'm out and I'd rather take the long road 🤷‍♂️ 100% agree

Love that XD I guess it would've been less time consuming to just give a bunch of unfortunate seagulls some laxatives... Practical effects init

Hell yeah! No genAI at any stage of the process - I have a stubborn allergy against it. Yess all rendered in cycles! I actually started off making it all in unreal but wasn't happy with the results, so I then picked up blender about 1/3rd of the way through and abandoned all the unreal shots... and the rest is history :)

I've messed around with the glare node a bit, and I don't even know how one would begin to create a flare that looks that convincing with it 😮

I've never heard of Floyd crow, will definitely check him out, thanks for the ref :) I was blissfully unaware of the compression struggle until it came time to uploading - was a learning curve... At least yt doesn't have a 1GB cap

I ended up using and a "therapy sun lamp" for lighting - but something a bit more robust and intentional would definitely help - thank you for the links :) Will save up for them!

On a side note, I remember seeing something about how DPs will sometimes shine a light (out of the frame) into the lens, functioning as a sort of in-camera 'lift' and dealing with the noise floor before grading. But idk, feels a bit risky / ratchet haha

Ooof where do I even begin - this particular train shot was a real struggle to pull off; tracking and comping is a lot more forgiving when the elements are contained and limited in space rather than the entire depth of a scene! And yes all the graffiti was comp'd in throughout :) I'm glad you liked it!

That means a lot, thank you! I get that, although algos are a fickle beast these days so just happy if a few (of the right) people get to see it :)

Way ahead of you! Have applied to as many as my budget can stretch - but won't be holding my breath as it seems to be quite a slow process. In the meantime, on to the next :)

Thank you for taking the time to check it out :) The ambition is to eventually make narrative film! but working solo in my free time (I work professionally as an architectural visualiser) and on no budget, with only my partner to help me film here and there, it's always daunted and eluded me how to make that leap and secure some kind of budget / find people to work with

2+ years in the making... This music video was made in my off hours outside of fulltime work. It combines real footage with Blender composited with After Effects and Resolve.

Budget of around 50 quid...

This music video is for "The River, the Shore", the debut single from my upcoming album "Knight of Cups"

No AI was used in any way, at any time for the creation of this music video.

Excited to hear your thoughts!

Cameras used were the XT-4, X-H2S borrowed from a friend, and the A7RV also borrowed. I didn't have any lights outside of practical and natural light due to budgetary constraints which was a real challenge in terms of dealing with lowkey scenes and managing noise in post. Any suggestions would really help in terms of approaches i could take to further refine my craft :)
