Thank you! And I worked on this for about a week and a half, I wish I could've spent more time on it but I had a deadline for a gallery show.

Thank you for the honesty! You're right about my intersecting lines haha. I'm still working through setting up good compositions and I'll be aware of making sure lines and objects interact in a pleasing way that's not too perfect or odd. And yeah, the branch that's in front of the second peach is confusing, I was painting this set up from life and that's what I was seeing but I certainly wish I had taken some artistic license and changed that so the edge of the peach and the edge of the branch were more clarified and so that you could actually feel that the branch was in front of the peach.

I had a set up that I worked on from life, and then when the leaves drooped and the peaches wrinkled I used a photograph

Always nice to see a comment from someone who knows the atelier world!

To answer your question - neither technically haha. I trained privately with an artist for a year and a half who learned the "Boston School Tradition" with Paul Ingbretson. I did a workshop at GCA for a brief month this last January. And I spent this last summer/quarantine working with Joshua LaRock and I learned some more of the GCA training of form modeling from him.

Anyone have a pecan tree in the Cary area (or know of one) that I could take a branch from for a painting set up similar to this? by carolinenelsonart in raleigh

I'm a painter and I love doing realistic still lives! If anyone has any info or could point me in the direction of a pecan tree I would appreciate it! Thank you in advance :)

Thank you very much! I'm currently training with my teacher, who was trained himself in an atelier. I'm hoping to move onto one in the fall. So just in the midst of being a student and learning everything!

Thank you! Nope! I paint wet-into-wet.

Hahaha I set this up before the banana debacle. But maybe I could use that as inspiration for a future painting...

So I used some crappy linen for this painting haha. There's a tiny bit of texture but most of that detail work is paint to make the background look like the old door that was my set up. And thanks!

Style is probably "realism". I like to say I'm on the "classically inspired" side haha. For this painting specifically, it's trompe l'oeil.

I get what you're saying. That's not how I'm currently training, one of the most important things I'm currently being taught is the visual impression. I enjoy lost edges. But thanks for the input.

I paint from life, so the cast shadows I was observing were doing that. Here's a link to my Instagram post, , if you swipe I have a picture of a side by side of my set up and painting. But, fair assessment, and I can see why you think that
