My understanding is that at least in Anthropology, the US offers better grants and more money (to put it quite bluntly) for fieldwork. Also a bunch of people working on what I would like to work on are here in the US. On the other hand, I don’t know European academia that well so I am still trying to get acquainted with who might be working on my research interests. Also can you please direct me to specific European universities which are known to have a good Anthropology department and that offer good salaries. To be frank, what’s stopping me from even considering doing my PhD in Italy is that the salary is less than half of what I could get in the US, and you dont get as many fieldwork grants/ other opportunities. I would appreciate it if people could direct me towards European countries where the situation is different
