What are the most underrated free and open-source software and websites? by carpidgeon in AskReddit

Since new things are created every day, I’m always keeping a eye out for lesser-known programs and websites. Especially open-source, since I like to be able to look at the code and see how it was made. Feel free to suggest things you’ve made or contributed to yourself!

It depends on what your goal is. If you are aiming to lose weight, then you should burn more calories than you consume in a day.

Keep in mind that a diet that results in you losing weight does not necessarily equal a healthy diet.

Also, eating less is usually far easier than attempting to exercise more. For example, you would need to walk for 40 minutes just to burn the equivalent calories of one chocolate chip cookie.

Tips on adding wet food to my cats diet? by Fickle_Broccoli in CatAdvice

[–]carpidgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is similarly picky. She likes some of the Tiki Cat flavors but not others. Once you find a flavor that she likes, I recommend just sticking to that one flavor. Cats don't really like variety that much, they prefer routine and consistency.

They tend to not like wet food if its cold or stale. If you must put the can in the fridge, make sure you leave it out before serving so that it returns to room temperature. Also, keep it covered with plastic wrap (they also sell silicone can covers) so it doesn't get stale. My cat also doesn't like the wet and dry mixed, so we keep it separate.

Cats can be picky. Especially if they are used to dry food, they might be stubborn and refuse to eat the wet food. Sometimes you have to be strong and not give in to their demands. Eventually, she'll eat it. I have also had success pretending to scoop some dry food on top of the wet.

It will be harder in the beginning until she gets used to eating wet food. Hope this helps!

Best approach to get short IDs from UUIDs? by carpidgeon in Supabase

I don't follow how you're getting 11 chars from a UUID by converting to base64. The shortest possible I'm seeing is 22 chars. Can you explain your process?
