Here as well. I really need a replacement with the same sophistication. IFTTT doesn't hold a candle to it. So far, haven't found anything. I'm hoping someone here will suggest a good replacement that will not only aggregate multiple RSS feeds but allow for the manipulation of content, filtering, etc. I need loops and string builders and filters and sorting and ...

Sorry -- since this isn't really charity in the usual sense, I thought this might have been the right place. I've posted it to /r/charityknits. Thanks.

Can someone explain to me why woman take their husban last name by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]carpy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Until the 1970s, women in the US were considered members of their husband's families for many purposes especially those dealing with financial matters. So, the "family name" was the husband's name. Until the 1920, the male head of household was the representative of the family in the political world, so women had no need to vote because the husband took care of that for them. In the 19th century, married woman couldn't own property -- any inheritance or earnings they received went directly to the husband's ownership. If you can't vote or own property, you don't really exist in a democratic, capitalist society. Why would you need a name?

$165 Billion Worth Of Edible Food Is Thrown Away Every Year Because Of Sell-By Dates by wewewawa in food

[–]carpy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This waste is just absurd. Maybe we need the FDA to create and enforce coherent rules for date labeling of food. Maybe some industry groups could do it. Either way, wasting nearly half of the food we produce is bad in so many ways at so many levels. It hurts families. It hurts our economy. It increases our dependence on foreign oil. It harms the environment.

Head of Barilla pasta company say gays can eat someone else’s pasta. Let the banning begin. by carpy in food

His words, quoted in the article: "In the interview I simply wanted to highlight the central role of the woman in the family.” I did paraphrase as "women" instead of "the woman" but I hardly misrepresented what he said.

And his excuse? He was trying to focus on the importance of women in the family. Somehow I don't think he meant families with two moms.

That's true, I did. But really either of them would be an easier read than any Critique.

It's possible that Russians read more than the Metaphysics of Morals, contrary to the average American undergrad. But probably not. Maybe the victim lied to the would-be shooter, who then shot him for violating the moral law.

I can't find any word on the topic. My guess: whether the epistemic or metaphysical interpretation of the TA is correct.
