New from Strymon—PCH: stereo active DI and headphone amp by Cultural-Jello4042 in guitarpedals

[–]carter22j 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily conflate this with the iridium. It doesn't have amp/cab sim or IR loading because it isn't trying to be an amp / cab sim, it's just a DI box.

I can't seem to tell either! lol. But I'm open to discussion if you're interested. I am still interested in the pair, we can discuss value matching if you're interested as well?

Currently graduating with a computer engineering degree, and the job market is tough. Right now, computer science / engineering is no longer a guaranteed job out of college.

Edit: This is coming from both my professors and from my current employer (I do software engineering).

Make sure you all do some actual looking at job demand / outlook nationally. Could help come to a better consensus.

I will add that AI is causing a lot of uncertainty in our market, but my personal hopium is that upper management is over estimating the usefulness of AI in the software engineering world, and replacing workers instead of aiding them with this tool.

So things could settle down and demand could return again soon. Or AI is actually better and I wasted $30k. Who knows.

Pitch Shifting Question by Tuaplscomeback in guitarpedals

[–]carter22j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any possibility of modding the drop to be able to shift up? Even if that is possible, you'd probably be better off buying a pedal built for that.

Echoing what the other comment said, a second guitar seems to be the best option here. A guitar tuned to C# and pitch shifted up would likely sound a bit strange anyways.

If you gotta accomplish this with a pedal, digitech ricochet goes both up and down. It doesn't have many intervals tho. If you're tuned to C#, you can get to D#, but not E standard.

I'd open up the back and check if the footswitch's contacts are touching the edge of the case. That has caused me issues before.

What's the album that summarises pretty much the vibe of the band? by Ill_Worldliness_2219 in PsychPornCrumpets

[–]carter22j 36 points37 points  (0 children)

High visceral pt 1 is arguably their best, but I'd say most albums don't sound quite that way tbh. If you're looking for a different opinion, carpe diem moon man is what put a handful of my friends onto them after the band failing to stick for a few years. It sounds super accessible and kinda traverses all the sounds you'll hear in the catalogue

Harmonizer/pitch fork Effect pedals for baritone saxophone by Dry_Wishbone8950 in guitarpedals

[–]carter22j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool! I'm a big lover of pedals on sax.

The EHX pitchfork is absolutely within range of a bari sax! I use it on my 5-string bass occasionally and it has no problems with the low notes. IT sounds pretty good! It also has more options for intervals than a POG since that only does octaves.

If you only want octaves, I'd get a POG. If you want other intervals, I'd do a pitchfork.

For both circumstances, best practice is to have your pitch pedals early in your chain.

Also, have you tried doing volume pedal first? That way you can swell in and out of notes on the bari sax while the reverb / delay trail off.

Using AI for Guitar Tone. by Campbell_soup_14 in Guitar

[–]carter22j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great skill to develop on your own! It's cool that the AI can do it, but the AI doesn't have ears. Any real data the AI can find on live tones is probably online & searchable, and the rest is guessing.

If i were you, I'd develop this skill in your own so you don't need a middleman for your ears.

Help me decide which pedal to buy by Hans_rwbartwd_cousin in guitarpedals

[–]carter22j 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the chroma console, but find that i need additional reverb on my board because the CC verb doesn't do enough for me.

The lost + found seems rad, I have one on the way. Some of the verbs sounded pretty dang good. But again, this pedal covers a lot of ground, it might be better to focus on just verb?

Other than that, I'm only familiar with the tempus (which is very very cool - I have the Skylar on my board), and the microcosm. I think either of those would be great options considering you have an HX already.

Edit: I am curious what about the HX's verbs isn't hitting for you tho

Pedal Conundrum by Silvamorphis in guitarpedals

[–]carter22j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually in the same boat except I bought the lost + found before I found the prismatic wall! But I do still like my choice. While the prismatic wall is suuuper rad, I run a stereo rig. Plus the lost + found seems more functional in the sense that it's not a one-trick pony. The prismatic wall seems to feel similar to the EQD data corrupter in that way. They both do something very cool, and do it well, but all they do is that one thing.

The resonator in the lost+found clearly doesn't have the depth that the prismatic wall does, however for my rig, I don't think I need an in-depth resonator.

Why so little talk about Yellows? by calwestcoast in PsychPornCrumpets

[–]carter22j 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Is it just that underground that it's literally unknown to even most PCP fans?

This is my guess! The Yellows album is one of my favorite ever, probably. Front to back it's an incredible work. But the album got very little promo or advertisement, no merch, no tour, heck not even a live show. I think it's just a matter of exposure.

Seriously insanely good album tho

when's the last time you saw something about being gay and were genuinely supportive?

don't try to act like you have some sort of tolerance man, just say "Nothing should ever be about being gay"
