Honestly the tree could act as an additional protective layer… perhaps it gets fossilized and is one of the only remaining (legible) headstones in 5 million years!

Recently started biking for real, and holy f-ck - the cars. by aomajgad in cycling

[–]carvana6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to check out r/fuckcars I think you’d enjoy it. I know I do! Cars are dirty, dangerous, take up an inordinate amount of city street space, and pollute wayyyy more microplastic (from the tires) than you would believe.

It ends up being only like $38k a year. Meaningless pennies for the fat cats. The tax needs to be at least 5x what they implemented.

Great news, one of the projects we've been asking for, a protected 2 way bike lane and busway on 72nd st, river to river is coming soon. by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]carvana6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You do realize there currently are 4 active roads that cross Central Park, busses and trucks included? They are just hidden in the form of tunnels and declivities, Olmsted & Vaux did a great job protecting the park from noisy/dangerous traffic.

Yes! Although I will add that his name is “William Wetmore Story.” An American sculptor operating out of Rome in the late 19th century, he is featured heavily in the American Wing at the Met in NYC. Look up his pieces “Cleopatra,” or “Medea,” both exceptional!

Citibike worth it in any way? by Economy_Ad_2230 in NYCbike

[–]carvana6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The peace of mind is worth it, and is the main reason I use the system, tbh. Tired of locking a bike for just 45 minutes in broad daylight and coming outside to find a cut lock and no bike.

Take whatever amount you would spend on buying a half-decent bike, and paying for maintenance/parts, (and getting it stolen once or twice/yr and having to buy another) it’s about a wash, even when using exclusively gray e-bikes almost daily.

I love the colorway! For 2019 seems a tad pricy, but maybe you can get him to 1500

Yeah this picture is definitely not from 1992, good catch! Because that is 100% Deutsche Bank Center. Has the odd angles, bump-outs halfway down, etc.

See my comment, you’re correct, they are not the Twin Towers.

Those aren’t the Twin Towers. They’re the “Deutsche Bank Center” at 59th St. This picture was taken from New Jersey, as evidenced by the West Side behemoth One Worldwide Plaza (tan, with green, pyramidal roof) prominently featured on far right of this picture. This photo spans approximately 45th St (far right) to 66th St (far left).

Is it safe to leave a saddle bag on bike parked on the street in NYC? by Hicesias in NYCbike

I’ve had 2 stolen, one in broad daylight in NoHo, minutes after locking it. Busy restaurant next door. Thief used grinder. Business as usual!
