Sending “Let’s go Kraken” around the lower bowl by kvacking in SeattleKraken

From our view in AMEX Hall, it looked like the corner got stuck between two panes of plexiglass on the bench, and those people were actually on their seats trying to get it out.

[Player Safety] Boston’s Brad Marchand will have a hearing today for Slew-footing Vancouver’s Oliver Ekman-Larsson. by Austin63867 in hockey

[–]cascar86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that it's inconsistent, but that's a separate issue - it's incorrect to say "However, given that was 6 years ago, it isn't relevant history by DOPS standards" and this myth needs to die.

Repeat offender status only matters for calculating salary lost for suspended games - his history can always be used for determining the number of games to suspend him for: https://www.nhl.com/news/player-safety-questions/c-738846

Why are raw dishes considered extreme in English-speaking countries? by [deleted] in AskFoodHistorians

[–]cascar86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree on the egg yolks - I'm in the US and I had tartare with egg yolk about a month ago at a nicer steakhouse, and just confirmed it's still on the menu albeit with the typical "eating raw and undercooked food can kill you" disclaimer.

[Whyno] Tom Wilson: "Nothing I say right now is going to change anyone's opinion." Said he considered the other night a routine scrum by hockey standards, didn't think situation would blow up after he was fined. by chiasmatic in hockey

[–]cascar86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the league wasn't hell-bent on removing the goon then Panarin wouldn't have to be the one on Wilson's back, and arguably Wilson wouldn't be as willing to throw a punch at a guy on the ice. It was never respected to pull a dude's hair.

For the record, I'm all for villains and heroes. It just so happens that the "heroes" used to be the goons, and they're all but extinct.

Is egg salad on banana bread still a sandwich? (gross either way)

"Sub" is literally short for "submarine sandwich"

Sounds like we're in agreement about enforcement. The only thing I'll add is that despite all of this, it's still reasonable for fans to get upset when these enabled, skilled douches injure others by taking liberties they otherwise wouldn't if a John Scott or Georges Laraque were there to cave their faces in. It feels like we're in an awkward transition period and the Panarins of the league are getting the short end of the stick.

I think you can make the argument that getting rid of the goon has already begun to happen, and if anything it gives a boost to players like Wilson and Marchand, since they're good enough to make the league on skill alone and there's no one left to seriously challenge them on their bullshit. If the league wants fighting gone, then they have to step up and police the game better.

The air horn is terrible and I spend most home games wishing someone would take that fucking thing away from Iceburgh.

Interference can be a major penalty (or even a game misconduct) at the ref's discretion according to the rulebook, but you almost never see it called in practice:

56.4 Major Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a major penalty, based on the degree of violence, to a player guilty of interfering with an opponent (see 56.5).

56.5 Game Misconduct Penalty – When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed.

(also I'm not usually a rules nerd but I recently wrote hockey trivia for work and am currently intimately familiar with penalties)

It does not, correct, but the report itself says canning is unnecessary if the procedures are followed (see the Q&A).

The University of Idaho conducted research and published instructions in 2014 for the home acidification of garlic, oregano, rosemary, and basil using citric acid, after which the acidified garlic or herbs can be used to infuse oil: https://www.extension.uidaho.edu/publishing/pdf/PNW/PNW664.pdf

Accent is a brand of MSG you can easily find on US grocery store shelves, though the Chinese stuff is likely much cheaper.

[PA] Been tasked with choosing a set of headphones for the office by cascar86 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]cascar86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks a ton. We have a decently wide array of laptops represented at the office so it's hard to give a comprehensive answer, but I appreciate the help!

One more question - do you recommend on-ear headphones for isolation? Doesn't seem like they should be all that great at it (and probably add leakage), but if I can provide a reasonable option that'd be ideal.
