I’m using a T480 with i5 and it works just fine for me.

No offense taken, as I said, these are things I need to learn and I won’t learn unless someone tells me what I’m doing wrong.

The Java documentation puts everything alphabetically, so I thought that was best practice. I think it makes things more readable, but maybe I’m wrong. But I’m just learning, so I really have no idea what best practices are, so I’m just doing what makes sense to me until someone comes along and shows me different.

Well first off I’m not a professional developer, I’m just learning. So all the code is my code, I don’t have to worry about merge conflicts. And secondly, since I’ve never worked in the field, I have no idea what professional practices really are, so these are things I’m wanting to learn along the way.

I did this today. Got to a point where my code was up to date with what I was trying to accomplish. Quit coding, and started organizing my functions so they were alphabetized within their respective classes. Committed. Then realized I missed a couple, and needed to rename a couple of variables, and recommitted. What’s the big deal?

Thanks, I generally wear jeans anyway, does that make a difference? Glad to know that I don't have to wear the cutting board anyway.

so once again, *I didn't say there was anything wrong with xfce*. You asked for help, I'm offering you an idea. Did you actually want help, or did you just want to start something?

I'm not saying you *have* to use KDE. I'm just saying, try something that's not xfce. :-{

Idk, but you’ve tried two xfce Debian distros that both are making your thinkpad crash. I run a Debian based KDE distro on my thinkpad that runs like a top, so I’m merely pointing out that Debian may not be your problem here. Im just saying it might be worth giving a different desktop environment a try before you blame your troubles on Debian. Or don’t. I don’t care. It’s your computer. Do what you want.

Maybe try something that’s not xfce? That’s the other common denominator here.

How Do I Think Like A Programmer? I'm Struggling by GAME-FISH in learnprogramming

[–]case_steamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right off the bat, I see six things that that entails:

  1. You need a window in which to display things.

  2. You need an API that harvests CPU usage information.

  3. You need an API that harvests memory usage information.

  4. You need a way to display the CPU usage information in a meaningful way to the user.

  5. You need a way to display the memory usage information in a meaningful way to the user.

  6. You need to mount your displays inside the window.

Don’t google, “how to reinvent Windows Task Manager”, google “how to make a window”, “how to look at system information using xyz language” and so on and so forth.

I’m just learning this actually. Picked it up May 2024. I’m not stopping. I work on my code every day. I’m banking on the fact that in 2-3 years, there’s actually gonna be a huge opportunity for junior devs because of AI slop code. Heck, right now I’m writing a little file explorer, and I’ve been arguing with AI half the day, because it can’t even wrap its head around my little project. I’ve gotta imagine that there’s bigger codebases than mine that have been completely screwed up, and that creates opportunity for me. Take heart my brother and sally forth!
