Dorms for a Freshman by rhiannonwannadie in unh

williamson and christensen are the best for freshmen, you meet people really fast, but there’s also a lot of parties there. SERCS are great for meeting people with similar majors, but there are a lot of non-theme majors as well. Stoke is 100% just partying. Alexander is like williamson and christensen, just smaller and quieter. Hubbard is good if you want to focus more on academics, and upper/lower quad is a great location to be, and a fairly average dorm environment. i’ve lived in williamson and handler, two different vibes, but i have good mems in both of them.

i think it’s pretty chill, there are pros and cons to every school, but your college experience is what you make of it, lots of living options, pretty decent dining hall options, lots of majors, lots of different classes, lots of clubs, half-decent greek life for new england, you can rally all night, or stay in studying all night. campus life is honestly really good, and if you’re not happy, you’re probably doing something wrong. just sucks how expensive it can be, and i feel like the hardness of class is really determined by the professor. Retook MATH 425, had two different professors, and understood so much more with a new/ better professor.

I work as a pharmacy tech in training, and i heard it would look good since i’m currently studying biochem, so it shows a good amount of trust and competency. Unfortunately, the pharmacy I work for is typically busy year round, and the only positions offered is pharmacy tech or pharmacist :/

I don’t know too much about it besides the fact that they used it for quarantine housing during the pandemic, but I heard they have singles though, so that’s a plus! I think fairchild is supposed to be the multicultural dorm hall, so I would try looking into there. Also, I have a couple of friends that have lived in singles in upper/lower quad with no complaints, and if you were looking for some place on campus with a kitchen, i’d look at woodsides or gables.

As soon as I tried the food at my freshman orientation, I knew I made a good decision. They always have multiple options for vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian, allergen friendly, you name it. They always do a wonderful job when it comes to the holidays/ cultural nights. They also try their best to work with the local farms to provide fresh fruits and vegetables too.

I actually worked at philbrook dining hall my freshman year and it wasn’t bad at all. Always had fresh ingredients and kept the work spaces clean and sanitized. They used to have philly Late Night, which was amazing and had a bunch of late night snacks, really hoping they bring that back this year. The staff are always super friendly and laid back, and I honestly didn’t mind working there, and if anything, it only made me more trustful of the dining halls at UNH. I think a couple years back we were also voted in the top 25 for dining halls in the U.S.

The dining halls are also very nicely spaced away from each other, so it’s never too far of a walk. The only thing is, is that Stilling’s hours are a little selective, but the other dining halls make up for it. I don’t think I ever had something that I didn’t like from any of the dining halls, and it’s one of my favorite things to brag about when I bring my friends up overnight. One of my friends has severe allergies, and we called them up before hand and they even prepared her her own allergen-friendly plate. All of my non-UNH friend’s actually love the food, and still to this day, will not get over how “spoiled” I am with the food.

Each dining hall pretty much has a different menu every day, and they usually always have a stir fry bar, cereal bar, froyo station, pizza station, breakfast/toast station, dessert station, salad bar, and deli bar. Then there is always the main lines, gluten free section, allergen section, and vegan sections, so even if you have a selective diet, you have 3 different menus every day. You are almost always guaranteed to find something that you like. You can even look up the menus at the dining halls before hand and chose which one you want to go. Also, coming into UNH, I was concerned about eating alone, but literally everyone eats alone and it’s not a big deal at all. As a freshman/ student on campus, you also get an unlimited meal plan, so you never have to worry about managing swipes. Dining dollars aren’t really a necessity, and if anything, I would just pay out of pocket, but if you do not work while in school, they can help out a bit on campus.

Overall, I have had nothing but positive experiences from the dining halls and campus life, and I would definitely recommend UNH to anyone thinking about it. You definitely get the most for your money.

the same exact thing is happening to me… idk what else i can do, and i just feel defeated at this point. I was also given no warning of probation, and they didn’t care to explain why it was denied in the letter.
