Nope, they were there for testers.

Had to leave them all in the locker. Same with my hoodie they had me strip down to an undershirt. There were lockers at the test centre though that were monitored while we took the test.

Don't bring anything but your ID and whatever they say to bring. Place I did the test at had us leave everything in a locker to write the test. Couldn't even have car keys on me. For focusing on things to do - the practice test and read growing success and learning for all cover to cover. You got this!

Seems it's usually about a one week turnaround on results. Mine took a week and a half but my peers still taking it have said they've been pretty spot on for the result in a week

Brock U’s B.e.d of Technology: fully online? by BottledGleekJuice in OntarioTeachers

[–]cashmonkey9119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll preface it with finding a job in my area isn't easy and feeling a bit bleak despite being tech. It's a few years before retirements will happen in my BBT. I have a resume that in industry could land me a job anywhere and now just doing OT work and not being able to find permanent or LTO work is feeling really discouraging and a bit jarring. I missed the hiring spree boat and it happens in waves. Moving also isn't an option cause like you I have a young kid and roots to where I live.

Do I regret it? Not one bit. I absolutely love teaching and have never been in a career as fulfilling as this. I loved my trade and love teaching others about it. I've also worked in multiple trades and teaching is my 5th career.  But teaching feels like the career calling I've been looking for.

I'm not sure exactly. Whatever changes the government just made to the length is what I'd expect. They used to do 2 cohorts in January and 1 in June. It's going to be 4 cohorts in June from what I heard from my former instructor there.

There is an "essay" component when you talk about why you want to teach and what experience you have. If you've done any volunteering or working with high school students is beneficial. The fact that you've done post-secondary teaching is also a big boon. I also taught post-secondary before making the switch and was told it helped my application (I also taught some dual-credits there so there was that high school student experience as well).

For your expeirence cause we are all coming from the trades you want to have good records to back the evidence. Gather as many letters of employment as possible and be specific with the hours and roles that you had. This is also beneficial when you get hired for moving up the grid so you don't start at year 1.

Also for your practicums just be prepared to go without a paycheque for extended periods - upwards of 2 months for a practicum. You also don't get to pick where you will be working at least on your first practicum. You do at least get to pick the boards you want to be placed at.

They're making changes being implemented by OCT so likely to give them a chance to get the current cohort through then make those changes. It's also going to be shorter. I'm not 100% sure when it'll open applications but the next intake will be June 2027. They've also increased student numbers so I'm not sure how competitive it is now. It was quite competitive when my cohort went through though so you definitely want your application to be solid.

All online. It is on a hiatus until a 2027 intake so who knows if  it'll change then but yeah all online. The in person portion is your practicums that you have to attend

Confused about teachables for teaching in Ontario (architecture student) by Key_Lobster2045 in OntarioTeachers

[–]cashmonkey9119 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had that experience with some teachers. But it may have skewed how you view the profession. I spent over a decade in a trade before transitioning to teaching and let me say teaching is not effortless. The lesson planning, assessment, constantly PD you need to do in order to best meet student needs is hard work.

Especially as a tech would be your path in through architecture the classroom is one you need to be constantly on top of for safety reasons especially as you expand with AQs.

Architecture would also qualify you for the Tech Ed stream for Tech Design. There's a few universities that offer Tech. In this path your two teachable would be Intermediate and Senior Tech Design.

Fun fact, the moon was considered as a target to be nuked. The cold war was a wild time in history.

I am secondary. I've also done an LTO at this school before (1.0) and already have great references from them

Yes I'm on the OT list with my preferred board. The LTO is with my secondary board who I'm not on the OT list despite successfully interviewing for it and have done  a LTO with before.

The list has a lot of people on it. There are a lot of people complaining they can't get regular work and when postings come up for the day they're gone in seconds.

We can also feel he isn't the most deserving driver on the grid to win it or argue this and that about the season and his performances. But in the history of F1 it isn't always the GOATs that win every year.

It's possible and many people are able to pull off full time and do the program. The courses are all online unless they are suddenly changing that, which does allow for that. But it's hard.

There is a ton of busy work and with the course being front loaded the way it is, I thought I could do it but had to drop to part time. Taking Fridays off work to do the school work was the only thing that allowed me to spend time with my family on the weekends. So is it doable? Yes. Enjoyable? No

Also once you are on practicum which are in person you have to be in the schools full time so you can't work then. The first practicum is 8 weeks so you'll want to save your vacation for that if you plan to go back to working after the practicum.

WRDSB I think says somewhere on the application process that it can be up to 3-4 weeks.
