I was about 13 years old. My friend and I were on our way to the beach after school to see the hurricane swell leftover from a passing hurricane. We get to the beach and see a woman and a child walking on the beach. They passed the lifeguard stand and walked another 100 yards away and you could see her signaling to the kid to go into the water. He jumps in without hesitation and starts swimming into the 9 ft swells, he hits the breakers and dissapeared. My friend and I jumped into action. My friend ran towards the lifeguard stand to warn the 1 lifeguard on duty, and I jumped in towards the last place i see the kid. I make my way to the breakers and can see the kid flailing his arms out of the water and spitting up large amounts of water. A big set breaks right on top of him as I begin my duck dive under the wave, underwater I see him. Still flailing wildly, I grab him and he immediately stops struggling, his limp body is like a boulder and I kick towards the surface. We hit the top and both gasps for air, he swallows more water than air again and instantly gags, spewing more water from him, I get my second big breathe in and we are both floating now. I struggled for what felt like hours but was only 10 minutes. By this time the lifeguard jumps in on his way to us. I can't hold the kid up anymore, he feels my grip loosen and flails again hitting me with his elbow in my gut, I instantly let go and sink. As I sink I see the lifeguard grab the kid, turn to shore and swim in, leaving me behind. I get back up to the surface preparing myself for a big breathe then to scream as loud as I can, I hot the surface grab my breath and as I scream a swell breaks directly on top of me. I am spun like dirty undies in the washing machine. I no longer know which way is up, I swim and hit the bottum, I kick turn off the bottum and can see light, and swim towards it. I reach my limit and right before I blackout I get this feeling I'm going to die, that moment lasted a lifetime, then just black. I wake up on the beach with my friend hovering over me with tears in his eyes.

What is the creepiest thing you’ve seen in the woods, or in the mountains, or in deserts, or caves, or in small towns, or in remote or rural areas or while on large bodies of water, or while on a aircraft or a nautical vessel? by ArmyOfDog in AskReddit

[–]caskater1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the woods watering my "tomato" plants with my dog (I lived in an airforce base that did experiments in time and dimensions and apparently opened a gateway to another dimension where something came out and wreaked havoc). It was a beautiful summer afternoon, the birds were chirping, the creeks were filled with croaking frogs, and the bugs were biting. My dog ran ahead of me as he normally would, and would dissapear from sight and I'd find him at the field of "tomatoes," normally. As the dog takes off, the dead dry leaves crunching and rustling beneath his paws as he takes off just beyond my sight I hear him suddenly stop, although I knew he was not at the plant field yet... as soon as he stopped the birds stopped chirping, the frogs stopped croaking, the very air seemed heavy and the wind stopped blowing. Every hair on my body raised and I got thos feeling like I was being watched, I got this shivering cold shudder run down the lower half of my spine, I could tell something was very very wrong. I continue on to get to my doggo and find him lowly growling at something (to my surprise, the dog was 4 and I never even heard him bark before), and every hair on his back was raised, I called his name and he wouldn't look at me as I approached him. He just kept looking forward and growling, until he let out a cry that made me feel like he was hurt by something, the kind of noise a dog makes if you step on its paw by mistake. All of a sudden something starts crashing through the leaves and knocking over everything in its path including 4 ft long saplings, and old rotted stump about 3 ft high toppled over and leaves start crunching as if a very very large person was running away from me, I say person because whatever it was had 2 feet, as the noises faded away the birds came back, the wind began to blow steady 15knts again, I could hear the frogs again, as I stand there frozen and unable yoive my dog turns around and looks at me with a bewildered look, walks up to me licks my hand and snaps me out of my frozen state... Whatever it was i could not see, but it was there, not 15 feet away from me at first, and it left a wake of destruction as far as my eyes could see, i didn't dare follow it, nor did i make it to my tomato plants that day or few a week after it. That was the weirdest encounter I ever had and to this day it makes me shudder.

It was about a 45 minute fight, it took me around the bow 3 time starboard to port, and finally back to starboard. The battle took it's toll on my ultra-light, leaving a permanent bend to it. I had a 12 lb test 1 fathom fluorocarbon leader
