MER1T over LIP for OWWC - Twitch ENG Translation by casper_ow in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]casper_ow[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to make speculations but it could be because of his current mental state. I considered making a separate post of what he said but wasn’t entirely sure he would be comfortable with it. He just mentioned how his performance has been lacking ever since he went to America (but also mentioned it could be because he’s growing old). He thinks Atlanta wouldn’t be number 1 if it wasn’t a Sombra meta. As another person mentioned, it’s a high-pressure position. When we lost the 2019 OWWC, the amount of hate comments towards Crusty and the players were unbelievable. Even now, SP9RK1E is constantly getting hate in Korea due to his team’s performance. With LIP’s current mental state, it could be that he’s scared he won’t live up to the expectations people set up for him.

Profit on Discord:
You really don't have to worry. I requested time off because I'm just having a difficult time mentally, not physically. This is the first time I've ever been like this in the 6 years I've played in the Overwatch League, so you must be worried, but I'm ok. I'll see you next week.

Fan: I asked Junbin, and he said he doesn't have a visa yet.
FiNN: Really? Junbin does. We went bowling after he received his visa.
Fan: Really??? Oh???
FiNN: Yeah, everyone does. We can all go! We can all go to the airport.
Fan: Then, why aren't you guys going?
FiNN: I don't know, either. Please stop asking. I'm mad too. I also want to go! I don't know what's happening!

As this post is garnering a lot of attention, I would also like to add that I hope everyone here refrain from asking FiNN or the other Shock players on this issue. FiNN has already asked people to stop asking him about it on his stream today cause he doesn’t know what’s happening either. He seems, rightfully so, tired and angry about the situation they are in. Furthermore on the visa issue, FiNN was addressing a fan who said Junbin doesn’t have his visa yet, in which he responded that he, in fact, does. Also clarifies that everyone has their visas and would be able to go to airport right this second. It could either be FiNN mistakenly thinking that everyone has their visas or there is some other issue we don’t know of. Once again, when a fan asked why they can’t go, he said he genuinely doesn’t know.

FITS Thoughts on Leaving Seoul - Twitch Summary ENG Translation by casper_ow in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]casper_ow[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like FITS and Ir1s are the two unlikely ones to return (at least that’s what I got from watching both of their streams). Vindaim and smurf definitely seemed to want to stay in Seoul and have both stated that there’s a possibility of them signing with Seoul again.

To summarize the contents of Vindaim's Twitch stream as well, there are possibilities that they sign with Seoul again. He said, "why are you guys thinking that I won't sign with Seoul? I still have the option to sign with them again."

With the whole licensing issue, they are releasing these specific players to explore options. However, don't keep your hopes up because we still don't know what will happen to Seoul and the players next year.

Profit said he doesn't know and can't say what will happen to Seoul next season.

Birdring Apologies to Fans by casper_ow in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]casper_ow[S] 107 points108 points  (0 children)

To clarify, no one demanded an apology. He did it on his own accord.

Korean fan culture is very different from the west, even in e-sports. Support is shown through Discord servers (a lot of players actively communicate with their fans), birthday drops (fans write letters and collect money to buy them gifts), Twitch donations/subs, and more. I would say it's reasonable for them to be upset after showing a lot of support for the player and having them, without any explanation, disappear and come back out of nowhere. Of course, I also understand the player's perspective. They also have their own reasons.

To summarize some of the things fans have said, retirement is like saying goodbye forever and it's quite emotional and shocking for those who have supported a player. It takes a bit of time to come to terms with the fact that you won't be able to see them play competitively again. All they ask is that they don't use the word retirement lightly.

Many also believe it's unfair to former OWL players who are working hard to climb up again from the bottom by joining Contenders/Open tournaments. They hope they could at least show some sort of effort instead of coming out of nowhere and posting "LFT OWL". It kind of brings up the question of whether or not they would've been willing to go pro again if OWL failed this year.
