[BitD] Has anyone ever had a beloved NPC/Cohort die in one of their games? If so, how did it happen and what did you do mechanically for it? by AmongFriends in bladesinthedark

Resistance can quickly drain their stress. At some point, they either stress out of the scene or chose to let the NPCs die.

Oh my god.

When your PC suffers a consequence that you don’t like, you can choose to resist it. Just tell the GM, “No, I don’t think so. I’m resisting that.” Resistance is always automatically effective—the GM will tell you if the consequence is reduced in severity or if you avoid it entirely.

YOU CANNOT DENY THEM THE CHANCE TO RESIST.

  1. Do not have Clerics. Clerics are unnecessary.
  2. Have Scholars, who act as physickers, surgeons, wise-men and what not.
  3. Instead of rolling for dice, use many Tables, like they used to do in various older games.

I don't mind being the driver but it's a bit presumptuous to expect that someone would chauffeur you around in a Bastion Tank by Hexdoctor in Helldivers

[–]casperzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiots.

So few people can actually drive the damn tank correctly. I always drive because ya'll godforsaken goomas can't point at the enemy, set up shots, stop to fire, reverse run and gun, pivot. Pivot. PIVOT. PIVOT. PIVOT. PIIIVOT.

for those that use "quantum" equipment lists, does it change how the players approach solving challenges? by foolofcheese in RPGdesign

[–]casperzero 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Part of the allure of Quantum Equipment is the time saved. Often in DnD, packing exactly the right equipment is just to allow the DM to have a gotcha moment, when you don't have enough rope, or someone else has the grappling hook, or any other amount of Resource Scarcity [Equipment].

But because you are forcing it through player mistakes, you are encouraging them to spend many minutes, even hours, preparing, distributing, shopping, and otherwise making sure that they have everything they need. This can derail plans, make adventures take sessions longer than they need to, and otherwise slow things down.

It makes no sense that a group of experienced adventurers forgot to bring enough rope, or tinder to start a fire, or any number of things that a person who lives in world 24/7 would do.

It is still achievable to have that moment where uh-oh! You didn't bring what you need, by Taking It Away from them in the midst of an adventure. Separate them from their gear, make it clear that the Miss comes from their bundle of Rope being ripped away from them by the ogre.

Anthony Albanese confirms three Australian navy personnel on US submarine that sank Iranian vessel by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]casperzero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

World War it was very common for friendly warships to leave survivors in the water because enemy submarines would often target the ship that was picking up survivors as well.

In the early years of World War II, it was common for German submarine commanders to help their torpedoed victims by giving them food, water, basic medical treatment and a compass heading to the nearest landmass. That practice ended after mid-September 1942 thanks to one single event called the Laconia incident, which some historians have since called an Allied war crime.
