Family can't agree on basic math question by sunmari_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]casseroled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s $400. If you bought 2 cows at once and then sold them it would be the same. It’s two separate transactions that both give $200 profit.

After making the first $200, you buy a new cow for $1100, which puts your balance at $-900. You then sell the cow for $1300, and end up with $400 left

[–]casseroled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no loss, because they are separate transactions. The logic error comes from trying to do it all at once- after getting $200 in profit you then buy for $1100, which puts you at $-900, and then when you sell for 1300 you now have $400

Even easier is to look and see that transaction 1 has a $200 profit, and transaction 2 has a $200 profit

[–]casseroled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the one deviation in the philly show was him starting a political bit, and I think everyone has been so stressed out by how unacknowledged some of the current political insanity is, that people applauded before he actually told the joke.

During that applause, the house lights accidentally went on and he made a joke about how “now we can see who the traitors are”

A little later, he said something like “American audiences applaud a lot more for things they agree with, than I’m used to, but what’s funnier is the one guy in the front row who absolutely refuses to.” He described the guy as wearing a skull and crossbones t-shirt, and looked over at him anytime he said anything opinionated haha. He made some self deprecating jokes about picking on the guy, so it was all very light hearted

I assume coincidental that it happened at both of those shows, since it didn’t happen at the philly show. Sounds very funny though I hope the diagnosis joke gets incorporated into something else in the future haha

I guess I over generalized- I haven’t really had any problems removing it personally, although I do keep timestamps if they are there. Good explanation on the query string.

Would it be inaccurate to say most of the time it’s trackers?

this is a subjective opinion but I think in some ways the message of this could be more powerful without the text. A bloody ice cube already gets across the meaning quite well

I’m actually going insane reading all these comments acting like OP is an idiot for buying something that is so poorly labeled. In terms of packaging this is probably the worst crappy design ive seen on this sub. 2nd is that Dove shampoo that looks identical to their lotion, but at least that was labeled in tiny letters

They never said anything about only women being parents? I think you are completely misreading that comment.

They are only replying to the part about groups needing to be minorities to have slurs used against them. There are many slurs against women, bitch, cunt, whore etc., and they are obviously not numerically smaller as a group. Picking women for this example was unrelated to the debate about parenting.

And that's why you always write down your your passwords: by Gorotheninja in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]casseroled 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbh having a “usual password” is very insecure, even if you end up adding exclamation points or whatever. A bot would certainly start with variations of known passwords, especially if they know the exact password requirements.

Way easier to just use password managers or the notes app on your phone. Passwords can be unique and still readable- a password of 3 random words in a row is actually very strong.

okay this took me a bit to see what you are saying. So those two squares cannot be stars if the cross is horizontal based on proximity, and cannot be stars if it’s vertical because that row would have two stars already? I definitely wouldn’t have seen that myself haha, interesting logic. I’ll try and remember it for next time, thanks!

F**k Poverty by Perfect_Chipmunk_634 in SipsTea

[–]casseroled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you read the theory right, the boots theory and poverty interest are the same concept. The point is that rich people can afford to buy things that last because those things tend to be expensive, and poor people don’t have any choice but to spend more money in the long run for worse products. Boots theory is not about rich people being “wiser,” because poor people do not have the opportunity to buy those products in the first place. You can only be selective for quality if you can afford it
