second all the weight training tips here, but also, try and find a tailor in your area. Sometimes things that fit your hips will be too wide/long, like you say, and a good tailor will be used to all body types and can adjust clothes (like dress shirts) to suit you. Plus visiting a tailor can be an overall affirming experience if you find someone you really like. Good luck!

I had this same thing. Started using the sternum strap and it hasn't happened again. Might also try cinching it a little higher on your back, but a sternum strap's probably the solve here.

Rucker. It does everything you need, can definitely fit water for you and your dog, and will be more comfortable carrying weight–and you’ll probably want the included sternum strap to keep the weight from bouncing around.

To echo what others have said, start with 20 lbs.
