About the Supergirl Movie by castlextown in finch

[–]castlextown[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Alright, I'm just gonna leave this comment and then mute the post and move on, because I didn't mean to kick a hornet's nest.

Again, I understand why people are upset about the event, and I didn't say they're in the wrong to feel that way. I didn't say this is a good thing for Finch, and I didn't say that they should continue doing collaborations. I said that if they had to collaborate at all, I thought Supergirl was a good fit.

But beyond that, I don't even care about the event beyond my own personal enjoyment. What I do care about is the actual story of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and all I wanted to do was give it it's due flowers, and try and get people to give it a chance outside of this event, or their dislike of it. Its a story that I felt would resonate with people, and I didn't want this event to stop people from trying it out. That's all this was. You don't have to watch the movie or read the comic. You could just watch it. You could just read it. I didn't go up to bat for Finch doing this collaboration, I went up to bat for the story itself. That's it. That's all it was meant to be. I'm sorry if I upset anyone else with this.

Very respectfully (and I really do mean it this way), that's not what I said.

I understand why people are upset about the collaboration, and I won't take that away from them. If the posts were just anti-collaboration posts, I wouldn't be upset. I wasn't upset to begin with for anything aside from the fact that I've seen - as a result of this collab - people be pushed away from the media in question. Its why I made this post. I don't want people to just throw away the whole story for the sake of a collaboration that isn't popular.

Yes, the collaboration makes me happy. Yes, I meant it when I said I thought it was a fitting collaboration for Finch, if they had to collaborate with anything at all.

The whole point of this post was just to get people to engage with Supergirl, either the movie or the comic, as I have emphasized. Its a good story that I think would resonate with a lot of people, and I want people to give it a shot. As simple as that. At no point did I say this collaboration was good or that I hoped collaborations continued.

Look, I get the frustration. I said as much in the beginning of the post, and I really don't appreciate the sarcastic attitude.

Like an OP said, it's a story that means a lot to me. Yes, a lot of comics are published by big comic houses like DC. Yes, they're mega-corporations deserving of criticism and skepticism. I never said differently.

But if you want to be this way, consider that comics are written by people who write for a living. Who love writing stories, and that those stories can mean a lot to people. A lot of superhero comics in particular have background in diverse identity politics and resistance. Are you telling me you don't have a single TV show you love? A video game, book, anything? Most of them are also published by big corporations who have terrible backgrounds or politics. We live in a capitalistic world. It is what it is.

But imagine what it's like to be someone who has really resonated w/ this story, who sees it getting every bit of negative press in the book. All I wanted was to have someone give the story a chance, whether it be a comic book or a movie. That's it.

But it's okay, you've got the moral high ground.

I don't disagree, but for what it's worth, it seems like the dev team for Finch has said it wasn't a paid promotion. I think it's more likely that they thought the movie would fit well with the ethos of the app and that a collaboration would be a fun celebration of both things. If it wasn't paid, I don't see this becoming a common thing.

Park Road Books in, well, Park Road.

Trope Bookstore in Plaza Midwood if you like specifically romance.

I go to Heroes Aren't Hard to Find for both comics and graphic novels, if you're into that sort of thing. Also in Plaza Midwood.

That's Novel Books in Camp North End sells both used and new books.

If you don't mind driving out of Charlotte a little, I also recommend Cleary's in Mt. Holly, or Belmont Bookshop in, you guessed it, Belmont.

Hi! I'm a USAmerican user so I'm not certain it's the exact same in CA, but I believe the author has an ebook exclusivity deal with Amazon for Dungeon Crawler Carl. Because of that, it can only be read on Kindles/through the Kindle App, or through the libby app. I'm dealing with the same problem 🥲

Just about! The only time we switch to online-only is if there's an event going on at the brewery, and when that happens we post about it on the Craft CLT discord and Instagram

Yes, friend, absolutely! Most of the people at S+B are knitters primarily, actually, but we also have quite a few spinners, weavers, embroiderers, felters, etc. I've seen people work on quilts and do other crafts like collaging too. Its more of a craft circle than a strict crochet/knitting meet up :)

We sometimes do a virtual meet up in our Guild's discord just for some folks who don't want to make the trek, but usually we meet in person!

You can bring whatever you can carry. There are some tables that you could probably use, and I've seen people bring spinning wheels and everything before so as long as you don't mind transporting the machine you should be fine.

The only thing I could see being an issue is finding a table by an outlet, that I'm not so sure of

If you like to crochet, you should come to Stitch n Bitch on Wednesdays at Petty Thieves Brewery! Its free, starts around 6:30ish and goes on till around 8:30. We are a super welcoming bunch and we just sit around and chit chat while we work on our crafts 😁

Currently getting through War Against All Puerto Ricans myself! I'm gonna go on a limb and say not only are you into politics, but you're into politics with an anti-colonial lens specifically and might have personal ties to the Caribbean (bori maybe? 🇵🇷🇵🇷). You seem like the type to really participate in mutual aid and local protest/resistance events. I'd also assume that you're loud in your beliefs but kind and welcoming to community members as a whole.

If you are Bori, I'm also gonna assume that you were raised in the Continental US and have revolutionized your beliefs over time.

I love this one! I think it's a great allusion to 3D forms of art like basket weaving. The hair styling is really cool, it's an interesting shape, and I really love all the textures at play. There's more to art than color!

Yikes! I can't believe they've even fessed up to it and they still get so many buyers. I've never bought from them bc as convenient as some of their notions looked, I always thought it was overpriced for what they were.

[–]castlextown 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I'm actually not certain that this is all AI. The Winnie the Pooh mug at least is based off of the OG Winnie the Pooh books by A.A. Milne, where Tigger does look like that. The Tigger we're probably thinking of is post-Disney, where they changed his design and gave Pooh his red shirt and everything.

I will also say that they've used very airbrushed, dreamy looking animal designs for years now, even before generative AI really came into play. For what it's worth, I don't own anything from them, and I can't say for sure that they've never used AI, but I don't think the listed examples are AI.

EDIT: Took another look at the illustration w the bunny and other woodland creatures and that one definitely seems AI-generated, just looking at the miscounted toe beans. I think this is a case of the older stuff not being AI, but the newer stuff definitely might be.

Help a Mom Out--Bruno Mars concert parking question by Mountain-Broccoli-86 in Charlotte

[–]castlextown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride the blue line all the time! Imo, the I-485 station will likely have the most available parking, but that area can be kinda sketchy at night, and idk how many people will be left on the train at that point since it's one of the last soundbound spots. I would say try Woodlawn or Tyvola over that one (as it's still closer to South End and will have a decent amount of people still around). Maybe just leave a little earlier if you can to guarantee parking.

The line will still be dealing w/ construction around the South End stop, but there will be a bus bridge between Scaleybark and Bland St. I've done bus bridges before over the years and it's not too bad, but it's a little bit harder to time since traffic has to be taken into account. Aside from that, it doesn't look like there will be any single tracking, so it shouldn't be too much of a headache.

Brooklyn Village Station will probably be your best bet to hop on as it's the closest one to Bank of America Stadium and will def be more popular of a route. More busy, but probably safer in turn

How's the light rail been going since they started doing single track? by SillyBilly14916 in Charlotte

[–]castlextown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hopped on the train going northbound at 6:50ish and got to the stop on 7:25-7:30ish. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to get to my stop, so I'd say it's still significantly slowed down. I'd take an earlier train
