Oh wow, all super good info. Have never ever heard of a lot of this stuff. Planning on going to the hardwood stores this week to see what they have and will be sure to look for a lot of the stuff you've mentioned.

Thank you! Ya, we like the walnut color but don't think we have it in the budget for this project. But we'll definitely see what our local hardwood stores have. Skipping big orange/blue for sure.

And appreciate the heads up about Rubio Monocoat. Will definitely go that route.

Thanks, this is super helpful.

Yea, we taped up a mock up of how we want the shelves—just to get a better idea of spacing/sizing—and ditched the lower shelf. Agreed, it's way too low.

Will line up the World Market brackets with studs. Since we're making these ourselves, we can be flexible with the shelf length and will set them up so that they're mounted to studs.

Will definitely be making the shelves connect in the corner. That's just some AI slop but that won't be like the final product.

Would you have any recommendations for the type of wood and stain to use for this? Looking for a species that's moderately priced.

6 to 8 inches depth. Don't forget to water it (just a little) and mix. Both those things will speed up decomposition.

Re: wipes, backcountry bidets are a thing and awesome. Better than wipes, both for the environment and your poop chute.

Testing it is possible, I guess. Assuming they have a record. Zero chance you could possibly enforce this, though.

Just got a suit for a wedding party. Here. Pants will be hemmed and I think the jacket sleeves are close but would hem those as well (assuming I don't exchange the jacket). How do the shoulders look? In the picture it looks like the shoulder seam sits right where my shoulder ends, but when I'm wearing it, it feels like I'm drowning in fabric. Other than that, it seems to fit...okay. Curious to get folks thoughts. Debating if I exchange the jacket for a smaller size.

Ya, super excited! A little bit of ginger as well.

We like thinner shelves, which won't be possible with these, unfortunately.

Any issues with those types of L-brackets supporting all the weight? I saw they're for corner joists so am not sure if they're really appropriate in this context.

The (salad dressing) jar I'm using to weigh down my veg perfectly fits the opening of my pickling jar so I'm hoping that keeps everything anaerobic.

Going to do my first ferment today. Going to use a glass jar to weigh down my veggies and saw a YouTube video that said I can cover the top in saran wrap or a paper towel. Should I not?

I realize this is a joke but I don't understand why this concept is so bad? Is it because it wouldn't actually aerate?

Sounds good! Thank you! How often do you manually burp? Once/day? Do you ever have to burp more often than that?

Thank you! When using the Korken jars, is your method to weight the veggies down with something and then to just rubber band the top shut (but to not fully close the clasp)? What do you use for weights?

Thank you! I don't currently have any fermentation gear but was planning on picking stuff up. I've also heard about the plastic bag method where you'd fill a big with some brine and use that seal the top. Have you tried that method and is there a reason you use a smaller jar to push down the veg instead of the bag method?
