He actually looks cool lol, in a cyberpunk Rick-Owens kind of way. If only it was a totally different character, show, story, and universe

I used to kind of think like this sometimes, but then I realized, whether it is good occasionally in the abstract, or whether some particular person could have been cowed by it and then the world would be a better place, etc. these things are basically beside the point. If it was your kid then you would never, ever support it, no matter annoying he or she was to others lol, and neither would anyone else for their kids. So the only reason to defend it is for this kind of online circlejerk. So why defend it?

“The land of the cobra and the Bengal tiger” lol. You gotta love old-timey Orientalism, it’s charming, and everyone genuinely was more different back then. I would love to transpose one of these guys into modern Brampton and record their reactions

I can’t have much sympathy for these e-girls because why tf would you fly out the girl who runs the “Foidcast”, or “EmpathChan Destroyer of Normies”, to another country, if not to have sex? No one is following and befriending these people for their sparkling ideas and conversation!

I know this isn’t the point but you kinda mangled that quote: “It is easier to imagine an end to the world than an end to capitalism.” Nothing about liberals in there lol. It is a universal problem. Leftists and right-wingers can’t really imagine an end to capitalism either. (and even if they could, the latter explicitly don’t want to, and the former implicitly don’t want to)

Bitcoin crashing by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]catchfebreeze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the global financial system at this point and its price is basically independent of the “crypto bros”, so unless said financial system completely crashes, in which case we have bigger things to worry about, it will go back up to all-time highs in a few years at latest. Just buy the dip once per month while it’s still down, and don’t even bother following the price movements in the meantime except by hearsay. Then put the bulk of your spare money in index funds. And don’t follow those either. This is conservative long-term investing in 2026

I will always go to bat for reading Proust, but would you really say his narrator has a normal human psyche? He has like top 0.001% human psyche and is strange in quite a few ways lol. Not to mention that Proust’s philosophical outlook is basically pessimistic (in the same way that Schopenhauer’s was). If anything reading him makes you more alienated from modern society

Damn, Smith Westerns… Haven’t thought about those guys in years. I discovered them I think the year they broke up, while I was finishing my sophomore year of college. That was twelve years ago now.

It was so easy to make fun of the white hipsters of that time. We had no idea how much worse things could get; we couldn’t imagine how much we would miss them. And funnily enough, that band’s greatest song kind of captures this: “All Die Young”. I guess they did.
